4.0 out of 5 stars A very good last album, 31 Aug 2003

This review is from: Shitfun (Digipack) (Audio CD)
This record is kind of overlooked when speaking of Autopsy. Of course, the two first albums are genuine rock classics, the third one not far behind, but Shitfun is also really, really good! The 21 tracks on this cd are very heavy, dirty, with a bit more punk in them than the previous stuff. The subject matter is of course excellent ("I sodomize your corpse", "Shit eater") and as always with Autopsy, the guitar solos are stellar! This record contains one of Autopsy's finest moments, by the way; the incredibly gloomy "Praise the children".
When Shitfun was released in 1995, Chris Reifert and co's next band Abscess was already in existence, with "Urine junkies" released on Relapse the same year. It's easy to see where they were heading; shorter, dirtyer, punkier and (even) crazier!
Anyway, every Autopsy (and Abscess) record is a must have for music lovers anywhere, and Shitfun is no exception!! Remember that, young death metal ghouls!

This review is from: S (Audio CD)
This one came along in 1994, and is by far the hardest to get hold of. I only managed to get this quite recently (from the people showing this review!).
Carring on from where they left off on 'Acts Of The Unspeakable' Chris, Eric and Danny are aided by people like Clint Bower to conjure up this release.
As with 'Acts...' there's an amazingly large number of songs (21), and so they can have the tendancy to whizz past. The production is slightly better then the other albums, and has a good mix over all of the instruments. The guitars maintain their slow speed and deep sound, along with the still great solos, but the writing of the lyrics started to show the mind of Chris a little more then just what horror films he liked. He's still nicely indecipherable vocally, with the lyrics sheet helping you to understand what's going on, but I don't think that anyone who bought an album called 'Sh*tfun' would have any problems knowing what the music was going to be like...
The most memorable to me are songs like Sh*teater, Humiliate Your Corpse and Bowel Ripper, but that's due to my owning 'Torn From The Grave'
Original enough to have people from Entombed and Dismember want to copy them and make tribute bands, Chris now carries on his sickness with Danny, Clint, and Joe in new band Abscess (just signed back to Peaceville!, new album out in September! Tour soon!), and also with Danny Lilker and Killjoy in The Ravenous (with Danny and Clint helping, new MCD and Album coming!)
Not the classic, but still definately Autopsy. Shows some of the reasons for the formation of Abscess, and the music of the new band.
