This review is from: Porpora: Cantatas for Soprano (Audio CD)
The Brilliant Classics label may not be flashy in its presentation and sometimes has a bit of a bargain basement look about its productions (here accompanying notes are pitiful and the libretti are given in Italian only with no translation) but they can give us some great music inexpensively. And what a bonus that they have chosen with this disc to present five cantatas by the sadly under-recorded Nicola Porpora, one of the greatest composers of the Baroque, four of which have never been recorded before (in the fifth cantata, the final aria, transposed up two tones, is to be found in Porpora's opera Polifemo).

Soprano Maria Laura Martorana is a lovely and agile singer, and does sufficient justice to Porpora's renowned skill in composing vocal music. The instrumental ensemble "Accademia Barocca I Virtuosi Italiani" on period instruments support ably.
