I have owned a number of workout mats over the years, and up until now my favourites were either by Gaiam or from Beachbody. I currently have 6 mats in the house from 4 different manufactures. When I asked for a $100 yoga mat for Christmas my wife thought I was a little nuts. But since I have spent over 150 hours practising yoga in the last 6 months I felt it was worth the investment. From all that I had heard the Manduka was the best of the best. I must admit I had very high expectations when I got this mat and it has exceeded them all. Diamond Dallas Page the creator of DDP Yoga only uses these mats and after using one for more than a month now I can see why.

On the Manduka site the specifications for this Mat are:
7.0 lbs; 71" long; 26" wide; 1/4" thick
9.0 lbs; 85" long; 26" wide; 1/4" thick
Great for Hot Yoga
Zero-waste, sustainable yoga mat
Backed by a Lifetime Guarantee
Superior wear and longevity
Comfortably cushions spine, hips, knees, and elbows on hard floors
Slip resistant, yet non-sticky, even when wet from light perspiration
Provides stability on hard or soft surfaces
Oeko-Tex certified, emissions-free manufacturing
100% latex free, and safe to use for people with latex sensitivities

I had originally asked for the Pro Lite but received the Pro, I was glad for this mix up. I was concerned about constantly carrying around the extra weight but the comfort more than makes up for it. My wife who wondered at spending $100 on a yoga mat, now complains when I take it to work for classes there, because it means it will not be at home for her to use. My only regret now is that I did not get the longer one, but maybe I will and pass mine on to my wife. I once heard Arthur Boorman asked in an interview if the Manduka was worth the price, he stated it was so good his son has asked that it be left to him in his will. I have also head others say you can pry the mat from my cold dead hands. DDP Yoga It Ain't Your Mama's Yoga and a Manduka Pro Ain't her Mat! It is the best dam mat on the planet!

i absolutely LOVE this mat! there are not enough words to describe how happy i am with this purchase.
I have this mat for a week and i am truly in love.
before buying this mat, there is no review that is out there about manduka/ jade/liforme mats that i have not read, if it is on the web chances are i have already read it. so i was knowing what to expect.
i ordered the extra long one even though i'm 5'1 only.
one thing i did not expect is how HUGE the diameter of this is! its breathtaking!
when i use this mat in my yoga studio, there is an obvious difference between this beauty and the ones the studio rents, even though those are pretty good too but boy this babe is gorgeous.
its wider, longer but not too long that i obstruct other yogis.
once i received my manduka i was ready to give it a salt scrub
i used coarse sea salt, dampened it with a damp cloth and used a dishwashing sponge to scrub. i really scrubbed every inch of this. one point though, do NOT use fine sea salt because it is a nightmare to get out. then i air dried in the sun (it was a bit cloudy). there is still a trace of the oily film still there from what i feel but it is not ALOT more grippy.
since i go to hot yoga classes, i have to have my hot yoga towel with me (yogitoes) but today i did a few downward dogs on the mat without the towel on top in the hot class with my sweaty hands and it totally gripped!
my yoga instructor uses this mat in her home practise and she swears by it, it was her opinion that ended my manduka vs jade issue.
plus here in the uk jade mats are even more expensive than manduka's (maybe because of the manduka eu website while jade has to deal with retailers and wholesale dealers?)
the normal manduka costs around 75 pounds with a lifetime guarantee while jade costs 100 without one, many jade users reported that they need to replace it every 1.5 years. so if i am paying such amount i prefer to pay it once.
in my previous practise with my cheap yoga mad mat i would ALWAYS suffer from my knees when doing any pose that required knee alignment, now for the first time my knees are thanking me i feel.
many have reported how heavy this one is, i'll say i did expect it to be heavier. for two days prior to my manduka's arrival i was walking with a 4kg dumbbells in my bag just to feel how heavy it will be but i feel the manduka long is a bit lighter than the 4kg stated (or maybe because in the mat the weight is evenly distributed and not in bulk?) anyway, my yoga studio is only 4minute walk from my apartment so its not a big deal. i would imagine the weight of this will become a problem if you walk long distances or travel a lot. i am thinking of getting the pro lite version of this when i travel on holiday, cuz of the amazing quality and the guarantee!
i am so happy about this purchase! the mat is even comfortable to sleep on (more comfortable than sleeping on my couch anyway)
i'll make sure to post updates to this review once i use this mat more. if you have any questions about this product feel free to ask, i know it is a lot of money to put on a yoga mat!
I really love the colour of this too! (i got the deep purple one named magic) so happy that i did not go for the lighter/brighter coloured limited edition ones as it seems that since its sticky, it will stick everything to it. even dust and makeup (if you practise with your foundation on). it is easily wiped though.
one reviewer somewhere mentioned that the edges of the mat are not closed cell constructed. meaning dirt could get in and perhaps causes discolouration. i can not comment on whether this discolourations actually happenes or not but i'm happy that if it happens then i won't be able to notice especially that there is nothing to do about it.
even my husband commented on how gorgeous the colour is.
manduka now sells equal towels that go over the mat so that when you sweat you don't sweat on your mat. the great thing is that they have it in "magic" too!! this is on the top of my wish list now!

I was a little worries when I saw some reviewers comments on this mat being slippy, however I've had no problems and am delighted with it. I did follow the advice of thoroughly cleaning the mat before I used it as I gather some chemicals from manufacturing can remain, this is a little frustrating given the cost of the mat (surely they could do this before packing) but it only took 10 mins. I should say I've only used it for Hatha and slow vinyasa practice so far and have yet to use it in ashtanga of fast / hot vinyasa.

There is some different reviews with regards this yoga matt. I chose to order one. Yes it is slightly heavy and just black very little markings. However performance and grip I find is excellent also the matt is the long version I have and this is the best one to go for I find especially in down facing dog etc. Make sure you have a good shoulder yoga matt bag with this purchase and you will be made for life!! Brilliant purchase thanks Yoga matters & Amazon!

Had this mat for almost three years and i have no doubt it will last another three, very pleased with it. I use it for home workouts such as P90x and insanity, I've never slipped on it - never washed it either but it did smell a little when new. It's quite a heavy mat which is good as it doesn't slide about, the ends don't curl up and it stays flat. Good for yoga too, definitely recommend it.

Once broken in, this is a great mat that lasts for years. Unlike those cheap floppy mats that you find at supermarkets, this one stays where you put it and does not stretch. I will never use anything else.

I've now had this mat for six months and I am still sliding on it every time I practise. I've used salt on it (as Manduka recommends) and use the mat at least three times a week at Ashtanga and Strong Flow. As soon as I work up a mild sweat I'm sliding around. It's really annoying. It's nice and thick but this also means it's very heavy. I carry it on my back on my bike. Trust me, it's heavy.

If you practice yoga at home, then The Black Mat Pro by Manduka is ideal. The extra width and cushioning are great for comfort. Unfortunately, I find the mat is too heavy to carry to studio classes.

This is actually my second black mat pro, not because there is anything wrong with the mat, but because I originally bought the 85" one that is just too long for the class I now practice in, and I'm so happy with the mat so bought the standard size one.
I can highly recommend the mat from +12 months use of the long one (exactly the same in every way apart from length) but would say make sure you choose the right size.
To get the grip up quicker do the salt scrub, use the manduka mat restore spray and use it for practise, sit on it, lie on it.

There is such a good quality feel to this mat, I've used quite a few different ones at the gym and this one is way better, it's true if you sweat a lot then it can get a little slippy but this shouldn't happen that often. One little gripe I suppose is it does smell a bit chemically when brand new and lying face down did irate my eyes a little, but it's all good now after a dozen times usage the chemical smell has gone and the grip level seems to have improved with usage too!
