This was one of four pulp crime novels featuring Ed Noon that was published in 1957. In this particular story Ed is about to get his P.I. badge and gun back, after being suspended for a year. Of course this being an Ed Noon mystery, things soon start happening. On his way to the police station to collect his things he is involved in a street shooting, where he and a little girl are injured, and another girl and a blind man are killed. It all seems to point to Noon being the target.
As the police interview Noon they have their own troubles, with a naked corpse found in a car, that has been shot and stabbed multiple times. The biggest problem being trying to identify the body. Noon thus finds himself thrown straight into the middle of things after only just finishing his suspension.
Taking in a hot stripper femme fatale, murders, an explosion, and most of all greed, can Noon finally find out what is going on, and help bring the culprits to justice? This is an adrenalin filled case from start to finish, where something new is happening on virtually every page. As is typical was real pulp, the action is never let up on and this is a delight to read; this should make the most jaded reader enjoy themselves with some great escapism. You just know that when you start a Noon mystery story that you are in for some entertainment.
