3.0 out of 5 stars Working but slowly...
I've been using this on my armpits for almost 3 months now, every 2 weeks as instructed and on the highest setting as my hair is very dark and my skin is light.
I have found it easy to use, with no problems even using it with my left hand to do my right armpit, and the gun design makes it easier to hold and use pretty much anywhere on the body that you'd need...

5.0 out of 5 stars So glad I bought this!!,
This review is from: Philips Lumea Precision Plus SC2003/11 IPL Hair Removal System with Facial Attachment (Personal Care)This product has literally changed my life. I was initially put off by the price and feared I would be throwing away around £400 if the treatments didn't work but I'm glad I took the plunge.
I have pale skin and dark, thick brown hair but have been plagued with troublesome areas, rapid regrowth and shaving irritations since puberty. I have tried almost everything to make this more manageable and I have to say none of the other methods even come close to the results I got with this.
I have now done four treatments (on underarms and bikini line) but started to get results after the first one. The hair begins to shed in quite a patchy way but after the third treatment I would say I had around an 80% reduction in hair. I barely have to shave at all now having just done the fourth. My main advice is to be patient, it took two weeks for the hair to shed after my first treatment and I was worried it wasn't going to work...it will look like the hair is growing back but it is actually shedding so don't panic straight away, give it time to work. I purposely didn't review this product until I had done a few treatments.
I managed to do four treatments on underarms and bikini line before having to charge the device. It is really easy to use (although I would strongly recommend having a good look through the manual to check you are using it safely and are confident before starting) and I love that it is cordless. The carry case it comes in is really handy too for storage and to make sure the screen part doesn't get damaged.
All in all I'm so pleased with the results and confident after another couple of treatments I will be able to use it every 4 weeks just to top up and doubt I will have to shave the treated areas at all. This will be the first summer I can be relaxed and not worry about unwanted hair, stubble and shaving rash! Best £400 or so I have ever spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars This really works!!! Yes honestly it does!!!,
This review is from: Philips Lumea Precision Plus SC2003/11 IPL Hair Removal System with Facial Attachment (Personal Care)After waxing and shaving for years I decided to give this a go. I know it's expensive but I thought it was right for me as I am very fair skinned but have dark hair. In fact the back of my legs you could be mistaken for thinking I was part gorilla!!! So I decided to use the Lumea every week for the last 3 months now, I have used under my arms, bikini line, legs, upper lip and all around my chin and jawline. I really like the fact that you can use it in the privacy of your own home also.
Well I am delighted the hair has all practically gone and that which is left has become fine. I am going to just carry on using it and hopefully be hair free soon!!
Buy one I really think its worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars It works, but isn't a permanent solution.,
This review is from: Philips Lumea Precision Plus SC2003/11 IPL Hair Removal System with Facial Attachment (Personal Care)I took a deep breath before buying this as it is fairly expensive and I needed to know that it worked, and I'm happy to report that it does. I should point out however that I am an absolutely ideal candidate for this item as I have dark hair and very pale skin. Apparently it works best on this type.
This item is easy to charge and comfortable to use. It comes with two different heads depending whether you are using it on larger or smaller areas. It also comes with a range of settings according to how pale or dark your skin is. For me, I can use it comfortably on a level four anywhere but my bikini line, where I have to stick to a level three. I have found that for my skin, nothing below a three works anyway. Also when I treated the whole of my legs on level five they became extremely itchy and with raised bumps, so I haven't tried this again.
The way this unit works is that you shave the area to be treated, and then slowly move the unit over the area, treating it section by section. The unit flashes, and you then move on. In my case I would say that the pain is less than flicking with an elastic band, but more than just a warmth which some people describe.
The idea is to use the unit several times at intervals of two weeks, and then just use to treat hair that comes through. I wasn't always 100% perfectly on time, life got in the way, but it did work reasonably well, although better on some areas than others. The area that worked the best is probably my bikini line, followed by my legs. These areas became reasonably hair free, although not totally. I had less success with my armpits. I definitely didn't need to shave every day, but however many times I repeated the treatment I found that I still had hair that needed shaving.
One thing that you should know is that this is not a permanent solution. It stops the hair growing, but if you stop using it most of the hair grows back over a period of a few months. I discovered this by taking a six month break from using it, during which I was pretty much back to square one.
Some of the cheaper versions of this don't have the "slide and beep" function that this one does where you can keep the button pressed sliding it over the skin from one area to another. I paid more for this updated version as I felt it would be better, but honestly, I wish now I'd bought the cheaper model as that function is not nearly as helpful as it seems.
One thing that does annoy me is that it is rechargeable, you can't just plug it in and use it. This means that I can only get about halfway through before needing to redo it. Also, if you have any grey hairs anywhere it won't work for you. I don't yet, but one of my friends does and tells me that they simply don't fall out at all.
All in all I would recommend this item, although I would probably buy the cheaper, earlier model. Philips Lumea SC2001/00 IPL Hair Removal System for Body

5.0 out of 5 stars Zap and Go,
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)This is the latest IPL hair removal system from Philips, updating the previous model with some life-extending features, namely:
* 25% longer potential lamp life (100,000 flashes compared to 80,000 life expectancy)
* 15% more use before a battery recharge is needed (370 flashes compared to 320)
* 33% larger (body use) application window (although the size of the facial attachment is unchanged).
Given that the lamp is not replaceable, the 25% longer life expectancy of the product combined with the larger application area offered by the body attachment (so less flashes are needed to complete a leg, for example) are valuable improvements.
* Starting Up
The Lumea arrives boxed with a charging cable, two different attachments (one for body and a separate one for the face) and a storage pouch. It also comes with a detailed instruction manual, which you can read whilst waiting for the unit to charge for first use (which takes about 90 minutes). This also gives you the opportunity to prepare the test treatment area to ensure you use the correct intensity level for your skin and thus avoid any adverse reactions.
My skin is pale and I have dark hair, so I can use the unit at the highest light intensity levels but as guided I tested 24 hours in advance of a main treatment. The instructions suggested I test at the lowest recommended setting for my skin type (4 on a scale of 1-5) but I chose to be more timid because I wanted to carefully assess potential pain levels! I therefore started out at level 1 and increasing gradually to 5. I experienced no skin reactions and absolutely no discomfort.
* Comfort and Ease of Use
The treatment area needs to be shaved to avoid discomfort from burning hair and, at the lowest levels, I couldn't feel a thing. At levels 4 and 5 there was still absolutely no pain or discomfort - all I could feel was some mild warmth on my skin immediately after the flash.
The Lumea is cordless and thus requires charging prior to use. However, the advantage is that, compared with corded alternatives, you do not need to perform acrobatics to position yourself close to a power point.
* Treatment Times
The revelation for me was the speed of use; one flash and you move onto the next area; whilst the treatment area is fairly small (even with the larger body application attachment), this means you do not have to dedicate hours to the task at hand. I noticed hair fell out a couple of days after initial treatments, leaving smooth skin.
Use is recommended every two weeks to start with but eventually you should be in a position to extend the time between treatments to every 4-8 weeks. After a year of using an IPL system, I repeat the process probably every 5 or 6 weeks for maintenance.
* Epilation as an alternative
I regularly epilated in the past, a method that offers even faster results and leaves the treated area instantly hair-free. There is some discomfort and, although this reduces with repeated use, it is definitely more uncomfortable than using the Lumea.
Hair does not instantly fall out when using the Lumea and as a result it is easy to miss some areas. I found results were patchy to start with due to this but, with regular use I have developed a better method. Results are now on a par with epilation but without any of the associated pain.
* Preparation is the key and, other than slight warmth from time to time, I did not feel anything.
* Easy to use.
* Cordless, enabling treatment to be undertaken at a distance from a socket.
* Fast results.
* Separate attachment enabling safe use on the face
* Cordless use, so you need to wait for the unit to charge.
* Small treatment area per flash.
The Lumea offers fast hair removal with results that are on a par with those I achieved with epilation and offers an effective alternative method that is free of pain and discomfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!,
I often suffered with nasty in-growing hairs after waxing, because I have thick, dark brown hair and I also had embarrassing facial hair on my upper lip, chin and neck, which I was struggling to remove effectively. I decided to try the 'NO NO' hair removal costing £200, with the condition of a full refund if I wasn't satisfied. I used it a few times but it felt like a cheap product and it wasn't removing any of my hairs! I was advised that after repeated treatments my hair would be reduced, but not permanently. For the cost, I was not at all satisfied so received a full return.
After more researching, I considered purchasing the 'Philips Lumea', which I had first rejected because of the price. I worked out how much I had spent on waxing and shavers over the years and calculated that it would not take long to cover the cost of the 'Philips Lumea' and it was permanent! So I decided to take the plunge!
I am so happy that I did and am 100% satisfied. It does require commitment and it takes a few weeks for results to show, but stick with it because it does work! It's an easy, well packaged product that requires no lotions or gels and after charging is ready to use, with no mess! I have been using it every week (although the guidelines say you should use it once a fortnight) for about 12 weeks on my legs, bikini line, underarms, neck, chin and upper lip and I have had about a 90% reduction in hair regrowth already! All of the hair has grown back softer and I have no in-growing hairs. It seems to be more effective on finer hairs; thicker hairs are more stubborn, but are still reducing. I'm now starting to reduce how often I zap the hairs and it's now an easily manageable system of hair removal. Hopefully, the results will be permanent but I can't comment yet, although I'm optimistic!
If you want permanent hair removal then I would highly recommend this product. It does require an investment of time, it can be slightly painful to begin with but bearable, and needs regular charging so best to do different body parts at separate times, which makes the time commitment easier. It's good value for money and for me, a revelation for hair removal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing - worth persevering with!,
By various misfortunes (phone ringing, the postman knocking, having to drag my puppy away from eating a shoe), my zapping time has always been disturbed, and I've always missed out doing the shin of my right leg.
After one use, I noticed the regrowth everywhere I'd used my Lumea Precision Plus was markedly reduced. After just three sessions, my bikini line and underarms are almost completely clear, and my left leg is amazingly hair-free. Meanwhile my un-zapped right shin is as prickly as a cactus.
I'd have been able to see the impact the Lumea was having regardless, but by having the direct comparison between the two treated and untreated areas I've really been able to see how great this little machine is.
You may think it seems a little pricey, but when you think how much you're going to save in waxing (not to mention the time and the pain you'll save yourself too), it's actually a bargain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Working but slowly...,
I have found it easy to use, with no problems even using it with my left hand to do my right armpit, and the gun design makes it easier to hold and use pretty much anywhere on the body that you'd need to. It's not too heavy either and the attachments are a good size for this area. As stated, it only takes me about 1 minute or so per armpit, so it's very easy to fit into my routine.
The green light indicator is handy, and easy to see when using this in front of a mirror, even right under my arm. The flash is also very bright, so it's easy to tell when it's done.
I have always shaved beforehand and washed away any deodorant first, as advised. I have not found using this to be painful for the most part. Sometimes it hurts a little, but it's more of a heat/burning sensation and only very briefly, so nothing to really concern me. Plus, after using it once, you know what to expect. It's a lot less painful than epilating or waxing, that's for sure!
I did start to see the hair thinning after maybe 3 or 4 uses, and there is definitely less hair there now than when I began, but it's still not all gone and I'm not sure how many more treatments I will need for it to really look how I want. I am willing to persevere with it though, and have faith that it will continue to improve the appearance of my underarms eventually - hopefully in time for when I'll next be getting them out again in spring/summer! I might start using it on my legs soon too so they can be ready for next year.
It's a shame it takes so long to really make a difference, but so long as people know that and start treatment early, hopefully it will deliver results. So I would advise people to start in autumn/winter the year before to prepare for the following summer. That sounds a bit odd, but I guess that's not so different to professional treatments, and it works better to do it in colder months in preparation as you can't use it before sunbathing or on recently tanned skin anyway.
It's also a shame it can't be used on moles, but I guess that's just the way it is, and better safe than sorry!
So, overall, I wish I could say that it has removed every trace of hair under my arms over these past 3 months, but I'm afraid that's not the case. It is noticeably better now but still a way to go. Hopefully persevering will eventually deliver the results I want.
