This newly published book has 100 poems (from about 80 different poems selected from 3 popular Bloodaxe anthologies: Staying Alive, Being Alive and Being Human. All the poems were written in the last 100 years; most, I suspect, in the last fifty.
I find the heft of the book more attractive than the others: it's pocket-sized, whereas the others are a bit unwieldy and daunting, with around 500 poems in each one. I bought my first copy as a present for someone who dips into poetry occasionally, but I was reluctant to let it go. I've just bought it again as a present for a couple of poetry lovers.
Unlike the other three anthologies, this one has a paragraph about each poet at the back.
