5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly John's most obscure album, but worth hearing, 11 April 2014

This review is from: Whose Garden Was This (Audio CD)
This was John's third solo album when it was originally released in 1970. The title track, written by Tom Paxton, is particularly interesting as it appears to pre-date the public's concerns about environmental issues (those concerns were always there to some extent, but only became widespread some years later). Another great song is I Wish I Could Have Been There (Woodstock), as it is clear that John felet he missed out on something significant.

Elsewhere on the album, there are covers of familiar songs (Eleanor Rigby, Mr Bojangles, The night they drove old Dixie down), but it is the original songs that provide the main appeal of the album. It's not typical of the albums that he became famous for, which tend to present a more positive outlook - this one is more reflective.

This album came as a bit of a shock to me, but I may in time come to regard it as one of his best albums.

Tracks

1. Tremble If You Must
2. Sail Away Home
3. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

6. Whose Garden Was This
7. The Game Is Over
8. Eleanor Rigby

I will put a track listing at the end of my review. This is the third solo album of John Denver's. The songs i really like on this album are - Mr Bojangles, The Game is Over, Old Folks, and Golden Slumbers/ Sweet Sweet Life/ Tremble if You Must. I think this album will only really appeal to the avid John Denver fan. You won't find any of these songs on the best of albums. And you would have to say not his best work. okay track listing.

Whose garden was this. I have always liked John Denver, and this has done him justice once again, I loved it. I was asked to sing it at a celebration, which was fine.
