Though I found McKee is somewhat laboured, he builds up his concepts and structures piece by piece in a clear fashion. It complements Vogler's Writer's Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers by presenting very similar concepts and structure using different and significantly more precise terminology. Throughout, his use of examples and illustrative analyses helps enormously to ground his ideas in delivered films. Further, his chapters on development method and formatting will undoubtedly be useful for those who have not seen such guides elsewhere.

Overall, a comprehensive guide that really should be sitting on any emerging screenwriter's 'to-hand' bookshelf.

This is an amazing book. It takes apart the concept of story and deals with each small component one at a time, then connects everything back and makes the reader see the bigger picture. Its author has such a compelling voice throughout the book, it sounds in my ears when I read it. I've only recently decided to write creatively and I have purchased a mountain of 'how to' books. This one is THE book to read and puts everything else into context. Excellent in all respects. I'm sure I will be frequently referring back to it.

Really worth reading - highly recommend for any aspiring writer - not just screenplay - useful for all writers. It is quite academic and needs studying but I found it very insightful.

I fell in love with this book... A year after I read it, I decided to go and make a film. I got into screenwriting, and before I knew it I had an itch to learn more, this book will lead you to so many other horizons. Read it.

Received the book on time. Good quality and great price. Just what I wanted for the module I am studying at the moment, script to screen.
