I hadn't expected much from this film mainly due to a couple of negative reviews I'd seen so was pleasantly surprised when I put this DVD on. Wow! An engrossing film for grown ups that is not only exciting but has a superb cast, clever effects and an actual story with a twisting plot that will keep you guessing until the end. Better than Avatar and Prometheus by a long way, don't miss this film.

Well acted, well scripted and well plotted, but this film just misses the mark when it comes to being brilliant. It's got some great plot twists and looks fantastic. The acting is good, unsurprisingly when considering Freeman is involved. The script is well-written and the movie has a good pace to it, carefully building to the gripping climax.

This said, despite all the right ingredients, it doesn't quite have the 'wow!' factor (a film's version of the X-Factor). When the truth was revealed in The Matrix there was a definite 'wow,' but that isn't the case with Oblivion, and I feel it could have been. I suppose you could say it has the slightly lesser 'that's an interesting twist' factor instead.

I have watched this film a number of times, so it's certainly entertaining and I would definitely recommend it to other sci-fi fans.

Being from the generation of children that watched the Charlton Heston Movies, "The Omega Man, Planet of theApes & Soylent Green..." I am very impressed with this attempt at revitalising that Genre of SciFi.

In years to come I think this movie will become a classic.

"Spoiler alert

Look out for the scene were Cruise & Kurylenko are being chased in his bubble ship by drones, in a flying manoeuvre you will see a great homage to Planet of the apes... the Statue of Liberty lying on its side!

This movie has all my family glued to my 60" TV without a whimper, not even making a sound when eating or drinking... they really were that immersed in the story.

The cover for the bluray is something of a collectors piece too.

Buy it and you'll love it!!!

First off the movie. Classic science fiction with a beautiful cinematography! The locations are simply stunning. It's not the usual CGI eye-candy: the portrait of future earth looks very realistic and the art is top-notch. The story is certainly not earth-shattering original, but it is solid and engaging throughout. Tom Cruise as usual does a great job of playing what he does best: the sensitive action hero.

Now the Blu-Ray version of Oblivion is priced at £15. For £5 more you can get this stunning steelbook edition. I am a fan of steelbooks so I've seen quite a few. This is beautifully done and I actually relished more then usual holding it in my hands and admiring it when it arrived. This edition sold out already once: better grab it while you can! It will certainly look beautiful in your blu-ray case.
