4.0 out of 5 stars Concise review of all five Harry Palmer Films:
'Ipcress' is brilliant.
'Funeral' is good.
'Brain' is weird but watchable.
'Bullet' and 'Midnight' are abysmal.
That is all.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great collection but..
Yes the quality is uneven but overall this is a great set for Caine fans, BUT it is disgraceful in this day and age that subtitles for the hearing impaired could not have been added. It is so easy and cheap and not to do it is lazy and uncaring.

The first two films are superb - classics (the Ipcress File, Funeral in Berlin). The other three are barely watchable. The first two make you weep for what happened to the British film industry and its many brilliant actors: see Major Dalby, Colonel Ross, The Russian General, and the German black marketeer...let alone the great Caine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set of DVDS, 25 Mar. 2013

I love these films-the 60's ones are cool classics which show the development of Michael Caine as a screen icon but are all good stories with great details and the sense that Harry Palmer (the everyman Bond) was hampered in doing his job by bureaucracy, the old boys network and departmental in fighting-these are on-going themes for anybody who has ever worked in the public sector in the UK ;-)

The films from the 1990's are also worth a watch not as iconic as the first batch perhaps but still well plotted and have a decent atmosphere.

3.0 out of 5 stars A set of 2 halves, 3 Oct. 2014

Being of a certain age I can remeber the first 3 films quite well and they are just as good as I remember, the rest are a little under whelming and tend to take away some of the gloss of the earlier ones. If you want the best then buy the first 3 seperately, If you are a Caine fan who must have evrything he's ever done then ths is the set for you.

Fantastic quality collection of vintage spy dramas. While some of the latter ones are less than wonderful, classics like Ipcress File and Funeral In Berlin are well worth the price.

his usual laconic style shines through, Caine makes the role his own.
last film is a bit silly, and dated.

The Ipcress File is easily the best film from the collection with a great story and cast.Though the rest of the collection is not of the same high standard Micheal Caines presence and wit make them an enjoyable view.

Michael Caine at his early best. Little shown in USA , however, I fondly remember these films broadcast over Canadian
TV to the Buffalo area. This along with Danger Man , seemed more realistic than James
Bond.
