5.0 out of 5 stars The Cherry On The Cake, 3 Sept. 2012

(VINE VOICE)    (TOP 100 REVIEWER)
Divine Fits are a knockout little ensemble combining the strengths of
Dan Boeckner, vocals and keyboards (Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs); Britt
Daniel, vocals and guitar (Spoon); Sam Brown, drums (New Bomb Turks)
and Alex Fischel, keyboards. Together they have created a collection
of eleven highly infectious songs which combine electronic, rock and
pop elements to highly imaginative and entertaining effect. The spirit
of the eighties hangs lightly in the air throughout but there are more than
enough fresh melodic and rhythmic ideas here to drag the past into the
present with a new coat of bright and shiny paint. A cracking achievement.

There are some top treats on offer. The foursquare back beat, throbbing
synth and nicely articulated vocals of opening track 'My Love Is Real'; the
manically driving percussion and blistering guitar of 'What Gets You Alone',
coming on strong like a reimagined 'White Light/White Heat' for a new
generation; the stripped-down staccato entreaties (channeling The Kills) of
'The Salton Sea' and the delightfully rough-and-ready push and pull of
'Baby Get Worse' leave little room for doubt that these four talented young
gentlemen are thoroughly enjoying themselves. I must admit I'm hooked too!

If 'A Thing Called Divine Fits' were a cake it would be made of the finest
chocolate and bursting with rum-infused cream. I'm up for second helpings!

Highly Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stupendously funky, 13 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
One of 2012's unexpected delights. A truly hypnotic album laced with slinky rhythms and emotive vocals. More than a simple side project, this really hits all the right spots. I reserve 5 stars for classics - too early to put it in that category yet but a serious contender for album of the year.

I don't know about this cake sheet from the top 100 reviewer but listen to 'Shivers' and 'Like Ice Cream' that will do it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Retro music for 40 somethings, 10 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this on strength of a review in Uncut. At first was a little disappointed but like all good albums it grows on you. By the 3rd play you're hooked. What's it like, well....Divine Fits are a sort of 'supergroup' although I can't say I've heard of their respective bands myself. They each add different styles so there's no common theme really. If you like The Cure's poppy stuff and 80's indie rock and a bit of electronic then you can't go wrong with this. Take a chance like I did, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more than a supergroup divertimento, 11 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A super strong debut album from a band that, despite being a supergroup (Britt Daniel -Spoon- and Dan Boeckner -Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs), sounds extremely cohesive and focused. You will find no fillers here, just very enjoyable songs that manage to have its own identity and that you will constantly get back to. Let's hope the Divine Fits keep making music in the future (and that Boeckner gets to sing on even more songs!).
