Even some fans will struggle
on 12 October 2012
The facts are these: I love Elbow, I have a man-crush on Mr Garvey (don't tell the wife), and I have every album and cannot find a thing wrong with them. However, this B-sides album is tough to love. I see all the 5 stars and 1 stars and wish to balance these with some objective caution: you need to love Elbow's first two albums if you're going to enjoy this. The first album 'Asleep in the Back' and the latest 'Dead in the Boot' are closely linked in my view. There's the usual great reliable 'sound' of Elbow, but it's hard-going. It won't put me off, but if you are new to the group, go to 'Seldom Seen Kid' or 'Build a Rocket Boys' albums first.
