4.0 out of 5 stars Factory Prole Party, 9 Feb. 2014

This review is from: Fac. Dance 02 (Audio CD)
This is a good wheeze, whereas Disco was warm cuddly and inclusive,it had crossed into the mainstream, The Hacienda and Factory had a different experience in mind, one that conjured angst fear and paranoia. The dancefloor wasn't a place for free love and tolerance but reflected the atmosphere of modern city living. This 2cd (along with volume 1) is the soundtrack, the dancebeatwhile similar to Disco was flattened thereby oppressing the euphoria usually assosciated with dance, the sound was sometimes atonal, with elements of Teutonic Tuneage(Krautrock) modernism and Moroder. Most of it was produced by members of New Order and as you may guess, along with the Hac wasn't popular. It would take the advent of Chicago House and rave for that tochange, the irony being that alot of these tracks fed into underground scenes in NY, Detroit and Chicago thus settin off a revolution whose effects we still feel today. See also Trevor Jackson's Metal Dance series and for UK answer to house Richard Sen This Ain't Chicago all are good.
