Classics My Comical Review Writing Backside!
on 24 November 2013
If you've been playing video games for many, many years, you'll recognize what many of the games in Arcade Classics 3D for the 3DS are based on. There are six bite-sized pieces of gaming to choose from, including Bounce & Break (which is based on Alleyway), Blocks (Tetris) and Swap (Columns). However if you're expecting several hours of the best fun outside of a bedroom session with Scarlett Johansson, you will be severely disappointed.
Each and every one of the games here is either not very taxing for the mind, or just slower than a slug wearing concrete shoes. Take Blocks for example. The pieces move oh so slowly left, right and down the screen, and even pressing down on the d-pad does little to move things along. Meanwhile the collision detection in Bounce & Break is street tramp poor. The paddle at the bottom of the screen, in addition to moving slowly, doesn't always hit the ball when you expect it to. You can line up the paddle to catch the ball on the edge, but instead find the ball just floats through it to the bottom of the screen, costing you a credit. Simply irritating.
Other issues with Arcade Classics 3D include the music. The developers attempted to make it soothing and relaxing, but instead it sounds so depressing you just have to go and pick up a particular prescription from your local GP. Meanwhile the overall presentation is just bland and not at all exciting. I downloaded this title for a cut-price deal from the Nintendo eShop, but even with that deal I still feel like I've been ripped off.
There are good titles to pick up for the Nintendo 3DS. This just isn't one of them. Avoid.
Final Score: 3/10
