5.0 out of 5 stars Roy Wood a true wizzard
A biography needs to be well written and researched and this one certainly ticks all the boxes. It starts at Roy's early Brum beat days and ends in the present, no stone is left unturned and the book is a wealth of information. It is a warts an' all account of the musical genius that is Roy Wood and all that he has been involved with. It has you making notes to remind you...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wasted talent
Dear Roy. If he'd died after the first 4 wizzard singles he'd be remembered as a genius with an unimpeachable record. Sadly it all went wrong.

I'm afraid I lost interest in Roy after the mid 70s and I lost interest in the book at about the same point. Up until then the sections on the Move, ELO and wizzard were really enjoyable and the book is worth reading for...

It has you making notes to remind you play an old favourite again and to check out an item missing from your collection. The way the author describes the compilations is heartwarming and it will save you time and money in only searching for the releases that add to your collection rather than repeating, something that Roy Wood himself states in the text that drives him up the wall when a release is poorly put together. I read this book on holiday in a couple of days around the pool with a drink in one hand and my Kindle in the other, the only thing that was missing was my record collection, but then again you can't have everything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roy Wood: The Move, Wizzard and Beyond, 19 Aug 2012
This review is from: Roy Wood: The Move, Wizzard and beyond (Kindle Edition)
I have just finished reading this book, and am very impressed. This is a well-written, thoughtful and entertaining insight into Roy Wood, his life, and music with The Move, Wizzard and his solo career.

This honestly is one of the best biographies I've ever read, as it is written in a clear, genial style which is easy to get to grips with and the words flow smoothly. It is an art form to have the ability to write informatively yet concisely, whilst simultaneously entertaining the reader, and the author of this book is far ahead of the others with that particular skill.

I certainly would recommend Roy Wood: The Move, Wizzard and Beyond to anyone who is even only slightly interested in Wood's musical career, and for devout fans, this book is a definite must. Well worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive Roy Wood book., 4 Sep 2012
This review is from: Roy Wood: The Move, Wizzard and beyond (Kindle Edition)
Being a big Roy Wood/Move fan I just had to write in to say how much I enjoyed this read. It has to be the definitive book on the great man. An absolute wealth of research and insight into the music scene of the sixties to the present time.
A truly "must have" book for anyone interested in the story of the Move and the British music scene. Cant recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent summary of Roy's career, 24 Jan 2013

This review is from: Roy Wood: The Move, Wizzard and beyond (Kindle Edition)
An excellent summary of Roy Wood's musical career with most of the information known to fans gathered in a single source. If I was being critical I would have liked to read some more in depth 'behind the scenes' information such as how Roy fitted in his commitments to Boulders around The Move and ELO group work and how/when the Players in Wizzard gradually drifted out of the band in the mid- 1970s etc. However a very interesting read on a very underated musical talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars First class book about Roy Wood, 8 Nov 2012
This review is from: Roy Wood: The Move, Wizzard and beyond (Kindle Edition)
Roy Wood has written so many great songs from The Move to Wizzard and not forgetting his joint creation with Jeff Lynne - ELO, and this book tells you the whole story in amazing detail. It's all here in a thoroughly well researched and fascinating biography which must have taken years to write. If you're a fan of the 1960/70s Brum scene and some of the best known pop/rock songs ever written you'll be in absolute heaven reading this book. I read it and, at the same time, watched the songs on YouTube - a true multimedia experience! If you like this sort of music you will not be disappointed reading this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Roy Wood the Brummie Genius, 21 April 2014

This review is from: Roy Wood: The Move, Wizzard and beyond (Kindle Edition)
Being a Brummie and the same age as Roy Wood, knowing a roadie who toured with the band, the stories he told me I found it compelling reading. Jeff Lynn, Bev Bevan and all the other people involved brought back wonderful memories of the Brum Beat Years
