5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful film!
This is a beautiful film, I was lucky enough to get tickets for the packed screening at the Karlovy Vary festival last year where it received a standing ovation. It's a wonderful comedy road trip about two brothers meeting for the first time while embarking on a cross country journey to their fathers funeral.

3.0 out of 5 stars Soup of Flies
This Spanish film I found rather drawn out tedious in places though the interaction between two brothers was quite interesting at times.. .The scenes depicting the making of the film were well chosen and showed the actors enjoying themselves and appearing quite light hearted which was a light relief from the serious and rather sad young men portrayed in the film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Poetic, funny and an utterly charming Spanish film., 13 Jan. 2015

Two brothers, Miguel and Nero, are on their way to a funeral - that of their father. He was a bit of a `gad about town' and travelled the World living and loving as he pleased. On his death bed he knew he had not been exactly father of the year and so wrote to his two sons asking if they would attend his last showing on earth - he figured if he could not have given them a father they might like to get a brother instead.

They meet for the first time at a disused railway station somewhere in the middle of Spain. From there they travel across country to the funeral. Along the way they meet an assortment of characters who help to tell the story and give the brothers time to get to know each other. We also have dream sequences and talking to ghosts road bandits and it all seems perfectly natural.

Nero is one of life's fun people; he is full of positive energy and an exuberance that his newly found brother finds irritating - at best. As the journey unfolds they find they have more in common than just a wayward father.

This film has echoes of Luis Buñuel and Emir Kusturica - the music and the general bonkers nature of things are just brilliant. The language is poetic and the scenes are all filmed in such a way as to make even the most empty landscape seem bursting with vitality. It is performed in chapters and one caught my imagination as an alternative title; `the wise words of a thief and the reality of dreams'. This was written and directed as a debut by Jonathan Cenzual Burley and he also narrates and appears as a thief in the film; I can't wait to see more from him - this is one of those films that you feel better for having seen.

Two brothers who have never met meet their former lothario father's (whom also neither have ever met) request to attend his funeral in a location in the countryside. On the way they meet all sorts of characters and situations that are played out according to their contrasting temperaments - one of whom is a laid back dreamer and the other who is more rule and status driven. Gently amusing fare for a quiet night in.

This review is from: El Alma De Las Moscas (The Soul Of Flies) [DVD] (DVD)
Such a beautiful film! What at first seems like a simple story of two lost brothers on their way to a funeral hides great dialogues, beautiful photography and very funny moments, all of it acompanied by a great soundtrack. Independent cinema at its best, highy recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing special at all !, 12 Nov. 2013
This review is from: El Alma De Las Moscas (The Soul Of Flies) [DVD] (DVD)
I bought this film after reading some very positive reviews. I found the film with a very week screenplay, almost no plot, acting is so so (to be understood why an Italian actor should act in Spanigh with Italian accent pretending this makes sense in the story). All the good in the film is photography, this seems to me just a nice exercise in finding the best light and shooting on it through beutiful landscape. This is way too little for me, wasted time and money
