5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful rerelease!, 8 Nov 2012

This review is from: The Seeds (Audio CD)
"The Seeds" selftitled album debut is one of those 60's garage rock classics. Big Beat rereleases it in remastered mono sound with 10 bonus tracks (8 of them previously unissued). The remastering is fabulous.

It has a big booklet (36 pages). A lot of pictures and memorabilia of the band, new interviews with all the bandmembers (except Sky Saxon who died in 2009).

I gave this rerelease 5 stars because Big Beat did a great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Garage classic, 17 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Seeds (Audio CD)
I first owned The Seeds' first LP 45 years ago. The Seeds remain my favorite band of all time, though most of the music I listen to now is not proto-punk or "garage" in style. They've been accused of being too simple, which is a dodge: simple is not an issue in rock music, but how the "simple" is conveyed. The Seeds conveyed it with great strength. They've been accused of having too many songs which sound like Pushin' Too hard. Again, a dodge. Three-chord rock often sounds superficially similar, but The Seeds' variations are what matters. This new (2012) reissue is essential because it contains 10 bonus tracks, among which is an extended workout of Evil Hoodoo, one of the LP's finest songs. The extended version doesn't really add anything to the song but time--and in trance rock, time is of the essence. Evil Hoodoo is a swirling bit of hypnotic wonder. Other bonuses include other versions of previously released songs as well as one song entirely new to me, "Dreaming of Your Love," which is not essential, but which is good--and how fine it is, after so many years, to hear a "new" Seeds song.
