5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, on a number of levels.
The book provides a (well written) account of a sad childhood, and young adulthood, with a mother whose illness is still not well understood. It must have been a greatly cathartic act for Ruth Joseph to write about such difficult times. It is further set against the background of escaping the holocaust.

The book for me also works on a different, and entirely...

3.0 out of 5 stars Childhood memories of a sick mother
Easy read of a sad image of a girl growing up with an anorexic/bulimic mother when knowledge of such illnesses were not talked about or understood. How her childhood was not like other girls as her father left her from a young age to cope with her mother while he worked away and returned home like nothing was wrong with gifts for his sick wife. The house was run...

Oh what a sad story ! :Poor Ruth what a dreadful life she had looking after her mother and putting up with such a father. How did she tolerate it ? I had to finish reading it in one day - so glad she found a loving husband as Merv was.

This book is a must read for anyone whether they have experienced an eating disorder or not, I couldn't put this book down and constantly felt the need to step into this book and fight Ruth's corner when she was being treated so badly. Having had eating disorders I know how much they eat away at who you are, I can't imagine being on the other side being the carer, what a brave lady! Beautifully written book full of emotions and you can feel every one with her.

Well written and the high lights of how an obsessive and compulsive thought takes over a life sad for a child to have childhood stolen through selfishness .

I read this book in a couple of days! This book is very sad story of post holocaust relationships affecting the next generation. Written through eyes of an only daughter of two refugees and her fight and loyalty in an extremely volatile and dysfunctional environment and the growth and fight for a normal life. Must read this book.
