4.0 out of 5 stars Another Foreworld Saga side quest - helping us understand the characters better
This is now the third side quest / prequel to the Mongoliad world and it deals with Borthers Feronantus and Rutger. They, together with Maria are on a quest to ensure the security of a caravan carrying the ransom money, which should ensure the release of King Richard Lionheart from the clutches of the Holy Roman Emperor.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much money for a short story
Diasappointed with length and quality and will not buy anymore offshoots of the Mongoliad. Bought this in advance and feel that warning should be given of limited length. I won't be fooled again!

This review is from: The Lion in Chains: A Foreworld SideQuest (The Foreworld Saga) (Kindle Edition)

The French and the Germans both have different designs on what to do with the silver and Richard is certainly not particularly happy with any of those, so he sets his own scheme in action, focused around the Shield Brethren on the one hand, and a hand maiden of his queen - Maria - on the other hand.

Apart from getting a bit of background on Feronantus, and how he and Rutger met, there is some action, some clever dialogue, and some predictable Robin Hood archery from the side of the English longbowmen.

It is an interesting way to fill in the blanks without derailing the main story of the The Mongoliad: Book Two (The Foreworld Saga) with too many asides (and it lets some additional authors contribute) and is certainly a worthwhile read for fans of the Saga.

Great read - nice to know more about a younger Ferontanus. The alternate take on the origins of Robin Hood really grabs the imagination.
