4.0 out of 5 stars fast, different, gripping, funny
I love the Nordic crime dramas on telly (The Killing, Wallander, The Bridge) and read all the Wallander books, but find a lot of the so-called Scandithrillers a bit formulaic. This one's different.
Magnus isn't a mad character: he is an ordinary guy, a North Londoner I can relate to. He's on a personal journey and gets caught up in the evil of our time. I liked that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced but predictable.
I enjoyed this book. It is action packed and quite relentless in that, but I was mildly disappointed at the predictability of the plot. A couple of real surprises in there, instead of waiting for the characters to catch up with the reader, would have made this a five star read.

Lets hope we get book number 2 soon.

I was surprised to find this book is his first novel, it had me there! Even if I had to look up bits on Google and google maps. Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to his next novel

2.0 out of 5 stars A good story buried, 27 Oct 2012

The story started well and caught my interest but soon detiriorated into no more than a series of overly detailed descriptions of fights, chases and the main character avoiding death by a hair's breadth on too many occasions. A great pity as there is a good story line buried under all of this. I finished the last 40% by skim reading these passages.

Good story. Very plausible until the last few chapters. He seems to have endured a level of suffering beyond anything anyone could possible stand so it spoiled it a bit. Nevertheless, overall it was a good read

I felt that something was missing in this tale set in cold Scandinavia. I found that I did not care about the main character ....a good crime thriller , perfect for a quick read.

I really thought that this was going to be a thrilling adventure story. What a disappointment! The main character, Magnus, was lightweight and totally unbelievable! How he managed to survive being half drowned, shot then chased through sub-zero conditions was difficult to believe! A page turner indeed....but only to get to the end as fast as possible! I'll not be looking for the sequel. Thank goodness it was a 'freebie'

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful - even ''TV Quick' would be a better read, 22 July 2014

I hadn't realised this is self-published and after reading half I can see why. Frankly, it's hopeless . If it wasn't for the fact that I have to read something (I am marooned at Marseilles airport thanks to Sleazy Jet once again being delayed) I'd delete it from my Kindle Library now.
Unless you are barely literate, easily pleased and read Dan Brown don't waste your money - even my delusional work mate's self-published effort of a few years back had the saving grace to be comically bad - this is laboriously so and his life partner did him no service by encouraging him to continue.
