If you thought the Harry Potter books were a work of fiction this book takes fantasy to a new level. He only served ten years but in that time he saw every dirty trick and beating that happened while being the great detective who was called on for every elite team and investigation. I know enough that in the main Police forces go with the tried and trusted detectives on difficult jobs not new boys who beat 100 other applicants for their first posting as a detective. He contradicts himself from start to finish....all the brutality but I was so good. The book is dull and repetitive it simply plays on the media view of the LAPD in the wake of the Rodney King incident.....which gets two chapters despite having happened nearly ten years after the author left. My advice is don't bother.....unless you love fantasy and fiction
Not a bad book. I wish the author had gone into more detail, but understand as someone attempt to kill him for his police work that exposed corruption in the LAPD secret unit that spied on nearly anyone that the LAPD brass though as 'threats'.
