I should say that I do like the Talents books - the Tower and the Hive and the Pegasus books. Somewhat wish fulfilment, and containing an old fashioned sexist view of virago females and stabilising males, it none the less is a very good read and worthy of four stars.

However, £7.12 for a 22 year old book in digital format? £7 for the series of 4 books maybe, or £3 to £4 per book at most. I would re-buy on kindle for something like that. £7? Forget it!

Originally the concept of this book was a short story by the same author 'Lady in the Tower' which was later developed into a full novel and then a five book series. This is the first in the Tower and the Hive series and originally introduced the world of FT&T (the independent organisation of telepaths and teleporters). You have some classic themes of human colonies on new worlds, coming of age experiences, light romance and alien invasion. Of course the main character is an incredibly powerful individual who people have to pull all the stops out for. This story is not as involved as the momentus Dragonriders of Pern series. Whilst telepathic powers are not new to science fiction, I like the reality this book outlines.

Have read & reread this novel over the years along with the prequels and sequels many times.
I love Anne McCaffreys writing style such Talent is sadly missed.
If you enjoy good scifi with strong female leads this is for you without a doubt.
Will be purchasing the entire series on kindle as I reread the Tower & Hive books, As my hard backs are showing how beloved they are now 20 years on.

One of the first series I read by Anne McCaffrey, and still to this date it never fails. Having been extended from a short story she wrote, and then into a massive series, I love them all. Heavy not he fantasy/sci-fi, with romance and delicious details thrown in. Certainly a good series to start with if you have never read her before. Enjoy!

I have read the other stories that this series is a follow on for. The Author is well known to me and I love her style. The story flows well and is not predictable. A must read for any McCaffrey fans.

I first read this many years ago when I borrowed it from the library. Having bought it for my kindle I re-read it and then got the rest of the sequence. Still as good as it was many years ago.,

Totally different to the famous "dragon books". The Rowan is a young girl who has the talents of telepathy and telekinesis. It is a fascinating story and of course very well written.
