5.0 out of 5 stars Return of the king
The wimbledon final 2012 had it all, the first british male finalist since bunny austin and hopefully winner since the great fred perry in 1936. For surely it would be murrays year- wouldnt it?
Alas it was not to be for on the opposite side of the net was federer, a tennis icon and legend- with all the skills at his disposal he outplayed murray to win his 7th...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nowhere near HD
Poor quality dvd, nowhere near the quality you get on terrestrial channels these days, looked like it was filmed in the early 80s.

this dvd covers the epic match, the heartbreak and the tears. Relive again the moment the uk began to believe, only to have it all taken away. A truely great final which left us all drained and by the end respecting and adoring the return of a much loved king of the swiss variety

5.0 out of 5 stars 2012 Wimbledon men's final on 2 DVD's, 1 Oct 2012

This review is from: Wimbledon: Official 2012 Men's Final - Roger Federer V Andy Murray [DVD] (DVD)
On these 2 DVD's you get the men's final in Wimbledon from start to finish, commented by, among others, Tim Henman and Boris Becker. Andy Murray started strongly, took the 1st set and was about to win the 2nd but was denied by some great play by the Swiss maestro. After rain set in and the roof was closed Federer took over and slowly started to dominate the match. He won his 17th GS in style, while Murray had to wait till the OG final and the US Open to make his breakthrough.

It's a great double DVD, worth every penny, and for a tennis aficionado it's a must. It should have been shot in HD and released as a BluRay, of course. Next year perhaps?

4.0 out of 5 stars Removing one star because the title of the DVD is technically incorrect, 26 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Wimbledon: Official 2012 Men's Final - Roger Federer V Andy Murray [DVD] (DVD)
The DVD is up to Wimbledon's usual excellent standard except for the incorrect title. Matches are always described with the player named first who is highest in the draw - not highest seed but highest position in the draw.

The title of this DVD should be Roger Federer vs Andy Murray. Then there is no bias to either player. I musr assume Wimbledon decided to write it incorrectly so that Murray's name "stood out" in the hope all Murray fans would buy the DVD. It was to be expected that Federer fans would buy the DVD anyway.

It seems a small point but to the purists like myself, I really do not expect Wimbledon or the BBC or whoever titled the DVD to make such a glaring error.

In the match Federer started a little nervously whilst Murray, as seems to have been his habit often since Lendl has been coaching him, came all firing well and with what seemed like a considerable majority of the audience behind him, seemed to be somewhat in control, taking first set. But no-one who knows the supreme Federer would underestimate him and Federer was soon back on sufficient form to keep Murray at bay until end set 2 when all of a sudden Federer's genius appeared and he broke Murray's service to take the set whilst presumably Murray and the whole audience had been expecting a tie break.

After that Federer took over. During 20 minutes of to-ing and fro-ing, Murray was unable to take the 6th game on his service, whilst it seemed pretty clear that even if Federer didn't break this time he soon would as his game became more and more authoritative. Once Federer had finally broken Murray in that increasingly hilarious long game, Murray was really done for although he tried hard and continued to produce some very good shots. But Federer was now dictating the play, touching genius more and more times and by set 4 he was unplayable. In actual fact, he should have won the match on what turned out to be his ace in the final game at 40-15, but the ball was incorrectly called out and Federer didn't challenge - Hawkeye proved the ball was good. Federer lost his second serve point but won the next point and of course the match and the tournament for his record 7th Wimbledon win, which equals Sampras and if I recall rightly another great player of very long ago, and also Federer returned to World No.1 and a couple of weeks later passed Sampras's record of weeks at No. 1.

The cream was of course the delightful little twins of Federer and his wife Mirka appearing courtside to see Daddy receive his trophy. "Yes," Federer said to Sue Barker, "that's the best."

Murray gave it a very good try, his best yet in a Major on what is for him a very good surface and like as not some day he will win Wimbledon. He is surely No.2 in the world on grass with the Wimbledon final and his 2 Olympic Golds in 2012.
