4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Twists. Can't wait for book 2
I was expecting to compare this completely to Fifty Shades and possibly Bared to You. Yes there are similarities; girl meets man (8 years older) girl falls head over heels for man (and vice versa) man is into BDSM. But equally it is very much its own book; I found the BDSM side of it much darker, far more detailed and, with benefit to the story, a little disturbing (in...

I was expecting to compare this completely to Fifty Shades and possibly Bared to You. Yes there are similarities; girl meets man (8 years older) girl falls head over heels for man (and vice versa) man is into BDSM. But equally it is very much its own book; I found the BDSM side of it much darker, far more detailed and, with benefit to the story, a little disturbing (in context, the red room of pain is truly a playroom!). It is very well written.

I like Beth and Dominic, but I will admit it took me a little while to warm to them. It was nice to discover their characters prior to anything major developing, but it is clear that there is a lot more to learn in future books. As a Dom, Dominic is immensely cold and appears devoid of feelings but this added to his character. Beth is interesting as she really comes into her own later in the book and I can see things getting interesting with her.

Their relationship stirred every emotion. The twist towards the end...Fantastic. Didn't see it coming and paves the way for the 2nd book which I shall definately be reading. Oh and I love that it is set in London and I can associate many of the places described... Soho excepted ;)

3.0 out of 5 stars A tame erotica read xXx, 24 Aug 2012

Erotica has never been a genre of choice for me but since reading the most talked about Trilogy I have found my post box full with more erotica books most with sticky labels claiming that if you love Fifty Shades then you will love this book and this was no exception when Fire After Dark by Sadie Matthews arrived.

When Beth Villiers' heart is broken by the only man she's ever loved, she jumps at the chance to escape and houses it a luxurious Mayfair apartment. There, Beth catches sight of a man in the apartment opposite, and is immediately captivated. When night-time falls and the inside of his apartment is illuminated, Beth sees things she has never imagined even in the darkest shadows of her mind.

Once her and Dominic meet, mutual attraction is ignited and they begin a relationship that takes Beth down an exhilarating path.

This book is written at such an easy pace which allowed me to finish the whole book in one evening! I would definitely describe this book as sexy, sassy and exciting and I did find I was hooked which I feel is because of the ease of the authors writing style. My one negative point about this book is I personally didn't warm to the main character Beth but yet I loved Dominic he had an unexpected gentle, sensitive side to him rather than an over confident, vain male!

What I loved about this book compared to other erotica is that yes there was a great element of sex but there was also great descriptive writing when referring to London ,the author has clearly done her research as I felt like I was on a mini tour of the City.

Compared to other erotica books this felt a little tame but definitely had the edge with regards to the storyline. I am hoping there is a sequel to this book as I felt the ending was left wide open and so I would like to see what happens next for these characters and to see if Beth grows on me in a second instalment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Far superior to 50 Shades, 31 July 2012
This review is from: Fire After Dark: After Dark Book 1 (Kindle Edition)
The story of Beth and Dominic. Beth the small town girl, just broken up with her first love arrives in London to flat sit and meets with Dominic, 8 years older, sophisticated, amusing, sexy...

Fire after Dark allows you to get to know and engage with Beth and Dominic prior to the sex but, trust me, the sex is very hot!!

Fire after Dark is well written, engaging and passionate. I'm hoping there will be a sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Compare, don't compare!, 26 Sep 2012

This review is from: Fire After Dark: After Dark Book 1 (Kindle Edition)
Okay, don't get annoyed, but I didn't like 50SoG; I did, however enjoy Bared to You and have read a lot of Cherise Sinclair novels. Comparing this book to 50SoG is like comparing Austen and Bronte novels - it's okay if you have to submit an essay, but if you want to read a book, there is little point. What this book does for me is to reiterate that passion and love don't always go together, as much as we have been brought up to believe they do. What Ms Matthews fails to convey, and that is my only disappointment, is that trust is a two-way street; as much as the sub trusts the Dom(me) to stop when the safe-word is used, the Dom(me) trusts the sub to use the safe-word when necessary. I wont say any more as that already gives away too much, but I felt it was an important message.
Back to the review - it was easy to read, though once again, as it is written in the first person, the reader only sees one point of view, and we have all been there at some stage in our lives when passion blinds us and makes us do things we don't want to do really and will probably later regret, but we do them anyway, because we don't want to wonder for the rest of our lives 'What if?' This book is more real than other novels out there and I will certainly be reading the next instalment (Secrets after dark) due in November.

I really loved this book. Great read and if you liked fifty shades, you will love this! I did take some time getting into the characters but it was worth the journey. The ending was a cliff hanger though and I can't wait for the sequel!

Great book ...but what a cliff hanger ending. I loved this book and the story of Beth and Dominic .. the story tells of their building relationship but omg what an ending - I was left hanging ... how on earth can you end an excellent story with "and so my wait begins" ???

I'm now desperate for a sequel .. and its not out on kindle (yet)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fire After Dark, 20 Aug 2012

OMG what a read this book was!!
I was so enthrawled by it and was totally captervated by Beth and Dominic's rollercoaster of their relationship, emotions and simply the chemistry. I read the book within one day as I found it so hard to put it down and simply wanted to see what happens to both Beth and Dominic, I was heartbroken when it came to end, making me want more and see where there lives lead to next and most certainly making me think that Dominic is up to something and there is more to be revealed about him and mysteries that surround this character. Huge well done to Sadie Matthews on this wonderful book, and I simply cannot wait for Book 2 in November.

This is the best '50 shades copy' I've read, much more believable and better written. Read all three books in less than a week.
