3.0 out of 5 stars lesser known 50's rockabilly and instrumental rock
As a follow-up to "Roots Of Psychobilly", this is quite a let-down. Once again a mix of 50's guitar instrumentals and wild rockabilly, it features mostly unknown artists. With the notable exception of Link Wray and "Jack The Ripper", known artists such as Paul Revere and The Raiders and Dick Dale are represented with lesser songs. 3.0 out of 5 stars lesser known 50's rockabilly and instrumental rock, 7 Oct 2012
This review is from: Godfathers Of Psychobilly (Audio CD)
As a follow-up to "Roots Of Psychobilly", this is quite a let-down. Once again a mix of 50's guitar instrumentals and wild rockabilly, it features mostly unknown artists. With the notable exception of Link Wray and "Jack The Ripper", known artists such as Paul Revere and The Raiders and Dick Dale are represented with lesser songs. The music is overall pleasant but this time there are few hidden gems and the psychobilly connection is extremely vague. "Roots of psychobilly" utilized the painstaking research of the "Born Bad" series compilers, but this time only about a third of the tracks fit under the "psychobilly" label. The absence of liner notes is also a problem. Still, it's worth buying if only for the last songs on every disc: "She's my witch", covered by The Fuzztones and Tav Falco's Panther Burns and "Till The Following Night" by Screaming Lord Sutch.
Bottom line: Buy it if you're a fan of everything 50's or if you're a collector on the lookout for unknown rockabilly/instrumental rock. But then, you'd like to know more about the origin of these songs, wouldn't you?

For anyone who likes Psychobilly (or had Rockabilly) this one is a must. Another superb low priced double cd from Now Now Music, a few classics but also some great obscure ones. Definitely worth a place in my collection.
