5.0 out of 5 stars Epic rock from down under!, 30 July 2002
This review is from: Man of Colours (Audio CD)
This is one of my favourite albums from the 1980's. Austraila's Icehouse are powered by Iva Davies' soaring vocals which made me sit up and take notice when i first heard the single "Crazy", I was so impressed i bought this album. Davies reminds me of Richard Page of American 80's band Mr. Mister in vocal style but my partner thinks Morten Harket of Norway's A-ha is a better comparison.
There are a lot of good songs on this album, "Electric Blue" is a melodic rocker with good use of keyboards and "My Obsession" is another catchy little number. There are also some good ballads "Heartbreak Kid", "The Kingdom" and the title track "Man of Colours" are good examples.
Other 80's bands aside, Icehouse are a group with their own style and sound and though they never became BIG outside of Austrailia and New Zealand it was not for lack of talent. This little known gem is well worth getting your hands on.

A wounderful album, shame it didn't do as well as it did in Australia in the rest of the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally good, 2 Mar 2009

This review is from: Man of Colours (Audio CD)
This is a prime example of how music was rising to its zenith of production and creativity. The music clip of "Crazy " was, at the time, a milestone in video history. It was shot in one long sequence with stunts perfectly timed and walking and posing etc. Russell Mulcahy did a superb job shooting this and for the 1970's, ahead of it's time. We've all seen imitations, this is where it started. The writing and singing matches anything of the time and leaves some of the manufactured electronic assisted sounds of the 21st century luffing in the wind. Not just nostalgia talking here, this is listening to quality which is rare now. The music industry is industry first, music second. This is from creative times.
