I got the job! In fact I've been offered two jobs and I can honestly say my success is largely down to this book. Of course only you can put the work in, however this excellent book ensures that you structure your revision in the correct way. It was amazing that the interview questions that this book teaches you to prepare for actually came up in my recent interviews, and in my mind I sat there in the interview room and thought `thank goodness I bought that book!' because I would have been dead in the water without it!
My Mother and Partner also used this book for their recent interviews and guess what, they both got the jobs! My Partner then advised her friend to purchase the book who had not had an interview for over 20 years and was facing redundancy - she also got the job!
I found that after reading this book and following its guidance, I have had the confidence to apply for jobs that I would previously have considered out of my reach, including the job that I've just been offered!
If you are looking for a book to help with that important approaching interview or a promotion opportunity at your current place of work, then please don't miss out on securing yourself a copy of this book! For the price it's a must buy! Even if you've been considering another one of the many interview help books available please buy this as well.
This is what you need before you go for any job interview. Concise but packed with loads of really useful information and ideas to help you get the job you've been longing for. This book clearly shows, in simple stages, how to prepare yourself and face an interview panel. A real confidence booster, I used these techniques to get the job I'm in now, so I highly recommend this book.
Just graduated from The University of Sheffield and bought this book to help me in my graduate interviews. The first interview I had I got the job, and I put that down to the content of this book. In particular the section on answering interview questions by giving specific examples. It works, highly recommend!
I recently purchased Grahams pocket book for my grandson, who is at the age where having gained reasonable results in his A levels has now to find employment. He is a sensitive and decent lad but lacks the all essential communication skills necessary in life and would struggle to impress during interviews and one to one conversation. Lacking in confidence and struggling to portray himself in a positive way to any prospective employer we felt that he required professional help to assist in his development.
After reading through the book it is immediately apparent that he has improved both his knowledge of interview techniques but more importantly appears to have more confidence in day to day situations. We are convinced the pocketbook has been an inexpensive but most rewarding purchase. We would like to pass on our thanks to Graham and would not hesitate to recommend this most informative pocket book to any potential buyer.
I bought this book just before I was due to attend an interview. What I liked about it the most was the suggestions for questions that interviewers are likely to ask - it helped me think through my skills, knowledge, strengths and weaknesses which I don't always plan answers in advance for. Its small size was also a bonus - good quality, relevant information without being too onerous. I would highly recommend this book and thanks for having it for the Kindle.
This is without a doubt the best book I have come across for interview skills. Not only are the tips and techniques easy to follow, but the absence of academic language in the place of REAL English makes this book a real interview must have!
The tips inside this book allow you to structure your answers in the best way possible to demonstrate your true abilities to their full potential. It simply allows you to get the best out of your examples, which can often be a challenging task when under pressure. The author explains how there are only seven core generic interview questions and explains in detail how to answer each one. Not only is this reassuring to concentrate on just seven areas, but the advice given allows you to think in ways you may never have thought to answer these general questions in the very best way.
I will definitely be recommending this book to anyone I know who has an interview! Whether you think your an Interview King or not, this book will definitely teach you things you would have never thought when preparing for the big day!
I had been lucky enough to see the author talk about this approach to inteview skills before, and when I found out he had written this book I quickly got myself a copy.
The techniques here don't just tell you what to say in an interview, they help you to think about what you need to say in an interview situation to sell yourself to a future employer, tailoring your own knowledge to the questions asked.
The book is very quick to read and breaks down the most commonly asked groups of questions in an interview situation, which can start to relieve some of those pre-interview nerves. And the techniques work! I've used them successfully in an interview situation and have started to use some of them with my students, who I will encourage to get the book in the future.
Given that people change jobs so often now, invest a little bit of money and time into reading this book and brushing up on what is rapidly becoming a vitally important real world skill.
A really useful publication. The Powerful Pocketbook on interview techniques offers simple and concise advice on how to get things right in a job interview and to give the candidate the best chance of success. Graham Sykes has managed to put together some terrific advice and tips on preparing for a professional interview.
After 30 years in education and the last 15 conducting interviews myself I can easily see how the clues in these books would have helped many interviewees to `sell themselves' in the formal interview process.
`Interview Skills' offers many examples of vital advice from the simple `be on time', to the an analysis of seven key areas of questioning and managing the interview through effective body language and tone of voice.
This book would be an excellent place to start for a candidate preparing for interview and terrific value for money.
I used this book before going to an interview recently and found it absolutely brilliant in helping me prepare for it. The tips and recommendations given helped to pre-empt the type of questions that I might be asked and I was then able to prepare my answers in advance of being in the spotlight. This kept me focussed and gave me confidence throughout which improved my performance considerably. I felt that it had been the best interview I had ever given and I would recommend this book to everyone when preparing for an interview.
