5.0 out of 5 stars Beast with Five Fingers, 25 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Beast with Five Fingers and Other Stories: the collected weird tales of W. F. Harvey (54 classic stories of horror, the occult and the subconscious mind) (Kindle Edition)
Many years ago I read a story called August Heat, and never forgot the shock ending, even though I'd long forgotten the author's name. So when I saw it listed in this collection, buying the book was a certainty. I haven't been disappointed, this is a terrific collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic value!, 7 July 2014

This review is from: The Beast with Five Fingers and Other Stories: the collected weird tales of W. F. Harvey (54 classic stories of horror, the occult and the subconscious mind) (Kindle Edition)
Having read Harvey's "The Clock" in another compilation, I wanted to try more of his stories. This is a bit of a mixed bag - the stories range from very good to very weak. The biggest disappointment was the title story "The Beast With Five Fingers" - although I never read this before, I had heard of it, and of course the movie adaptation. Therefore it was a it of a let-down to find that it is in fact the most awful rubbish.

However there are so many stories contained in this book that there is bound to be something to please every ghost story fan, and it is excellent value. Just a tip - for the sake of continuity, "Miss Cornelius" should be read directly before "The Clock".
