Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about. Family of the year sound nothing like, nor are they trying to sound like, Mumfords. Mumfords are folky, these guys are West Coast Sunshine Indie Popists - and they sound damn good. The first three tracks are as catchy and cool as any three tracks on any album thus far this year.

Quite few of the songs are so catchy, you may well be hearing them on an advert near you sometime soon. Maybe this is all too summery for us Brits, who have had a summer to forget in terms of weather. St. Croix would have been a radio anthem if we had a bit of sunshine to celebrate.

Oh well.

I'll look forward to future releases from these guys and judging from their session today on 6music, they are a pretty tight live band. Watch this space.

I had not heard of Family of the Year before I listened to this album. First hearing and I loved it!
Ten out of ten.

Heard 'Hero' on the film 'Boyhood' and loved it. I had to look up this group and purchased the soundtrack from the film plus this album. Once it went into the CD player it never saw the light of day for a long time. Every track from Loma Vista is amazing. I can't find a favourite.

WOW!!! .. What a fab album .. This is one of those albums that only comes around once in a blue moon. Every song is at worst good, at best sublime. How anyone can rate this less than fie stars has bad taste in music!

best west coast indie around. really good and mature successor of debut album. the songs are sometimes cheerful, sometimes thoughtful but always made with lots of enthusiasm.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the album. Knowing just one song at start, i quickly got hooked to all others. Saw them live, great band, great fun!

Bought it for the track Hero which was featured in the film Boyhood. Have enjoyed some of the other tracks too.

It's great to hear a band who can actually play their instruments and sing in close harmony that's tuneful and melodic. Hero is a standout track with nice fingerpicking instead of the endless monotonous strumming and misery vocals of most British bands. Th Mumfords is a stupid comparison since their work is really not very well played and their melodies are really boring. as are their dire barn dance lyrics. The one star reviewer obviously wants someone to confirm his misanthropic view of the world. Not all as consistently marvellous as Hero, but great to hear some genuine sunshine and optimism from a modern group.
