Heroes of the Pacific Mk III
on 10 March 2013
I have recently played the PC Heroes of the Pacific and in storyline and gameplay that and Damage inc. are nearly identical-the latter game has fewer aircraft but does throw in an excursion to the Aleutian Islands.A console version of H.O.T.P. was also available a few years back.
Damage inc. is clearly aimed at a wider audience than the hard core air combat fans, the game is extremely forgiving;medals earned are yours to keep even if you die straight afterwards before a checkpoint/health regeneration after a death is generous/damage taken from all enemies is minimal/boss-ace duals are nowhere near as difficult as many games of this type.
You earn aircraft and upgrade points as you progress through the game and most aircraft have a `good feel' to them (except the Dauntless= nearly useless),I certainly was never wanting for these points and even playing on Ace progressed smoothly to the end.
Graphics should be a tad better for a game of this age and the delivery of the story is rather flatly realised. However this game is now pennies compared to its launch price-I paid £7.20 for
what was a £40 game(minus the joysick!) and because some objectives on some missions have no time limit you can merrily down jap after spawning jap.
Overall a good value piece of entertainment but hardcore fighter pilots may want to look elsewhere for real challenges.
