Excellent for timing your laps when swimming
on 26 December 2014
I bought this watch to time my laps when swimming. The reason I bought it was because the 'lap' button is firstly on the front of the watch rather than on the side, and secondly it is the only button there. The former makes it easy to find and press at the end of every lap. The latter means that there is no chance of pressing the wrong button while swimming and accidentally, for example, stopping the stopwatch instead of registering a new lap (bear in mind that I operate it by feel - I never look for the button).
This gives a distinct advantage over the average digital watch which has the buttons at the four corners, on the side of the watch (this does too, but the critical one - for me - is on the front and all alone)
This watch gives out an audible 'pip' when you press that button, so you know that the press has registered. This is very helpful.
Be aware that the watch only has the facility to time 30 laps, so (unless you are swimming just 30 laps) you have to time, for example, every other lap (thereby increasing it, in effect, to 60 laps). I fail to see why Timex has not increased the number of laps that this watch can time - maybe it thinks that no one wants to be able to record more than 30 laps.
The instructions say that you should not press the buttons underwater - i.e. the waterproofing does not cover that. I press it anyway and the watch still works. I suspect that Timex is simply covering itself in case it leaks.
I dislike digital watches - they are all about function, not style. This is certainly not a cool watch (unless you are a teenage boy, though I suspect that many teenage boys would also say that it is not cool). But then that does not bother me as I only wear it while swimming - when I have finished I take it off and put my analogue watch on.
This watch regularly comes up in Lightning Deals and drops in price by almost two-thirds. I would not pay the full Amazon price for it, personally, not least because I bought it for very close to the Lightning Deal price yet in a High Street shop. But it is a superb watch for timing your laps when swimming and I would not be without it.
Edit: Since writing my review, the price has dropped to a bargain basement price, a little above half of the price in a Lightning Deal, so I have bought a second as a spare - I value it for swimming that much.
