5.0 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant..., 9 Oct. 2014

This is a brilliant book. I bought it after seeing Nikki do a fab presentation on it, but it was on my wish list anyway. There's so much great stuff in here. Ever wondered why you couldn't put down a book, or were desperate to get to a sequel? Ever wondered how to write books like that? Read this, and then you'll know how. Interesting and useful, in equal measure, wonderfully written, full of intelligence and humour. Don't miss out Nikki's other books - her fiction is totally compelling too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating insight into why the tried and tested writing techniques work, 27 July 2014

I heard Nikki talk at the RNA Conference a few weeks ago and I downloaded the book almost immediately. This is a fascinating book about a fascinating subject. It doesn't teach you new techniques (you probably already know the things in the workshoppy bit), but it teaches you WHY you use those tried and tested writing techniques.
It's not a scientific treatise and it's written in very friendly/ easy to read terms. I will be recommending this book to every single writer I know!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great book, 24 July 2012

A great book for romance writers. It explains exactly how to give the reader a compelling read and have her coming back for more.
The first half of the book (the science part) should maybe have been condensed a little (I found myself skim-reading this) but once Nikki moved on to the 'toolkit' she really had my interest. Brilliant advice on creating that all-important emotional punch. (something Nikki's own romance novels have in abundance -- especially 'Their Newborn Gift' Dec 2010) I thoroughly recommend this book and hope more writing books will follow.

It may appear a little academic for some tastes, but if you;re a serious writer and want to know 'why' your readers keep coming back for more then this book is a must have. I attended a seminar given by the author last month and that's what made me download the kindle version. Recommended.
