This review is from: The Purple Land (Kindle Edition)
A quite old fashioned rolling narrative, more journey than plot: episodic adventures of a young man looking for work in the rebellion torn Banda Oriental (Uraguay). Hudson explores his philosophy of life and his greater love of Nature than of 'civilization'. A country that allows freedom even for crime is healthier he believes that a country that is too tidied up and controlled.

5.0 out of 5 stars be transported to another era, 7 Feb 2013

This book is so unusual that it's hard to describe in a few sentences. For anyone interested in South American history, adventure, wildlife and relationships this is a quirky account written from personal experiences. Slightly dated prose, but this sort of adds to the books charm and authenticity
