If you like the traditional cosy mystery then you'll love this. Everything about it screamed `cosy crime'; the village location, the plot and the characters, especially Lord James Harrington who to me is a cross between Lord Peter Wimsey and Bertie Wooster. His wife, Beth, complements him nicely and the `folklore' element lends itself to this genre. I also didn't expect...

And you get a recipe at the end like the American cosies...
This was a 1 well spent and I see from the author notes that she is already working on the next one. Can't wait for the next one.

A thoroughly enjoyable read, a gripping crime novel set in rural England. The characters come alive from the pages as you read and I liked that it was set in a time that I could relate to.

thourghly enjoyed this , a nice 'cosy' murder mystery, liked the charecters and the settings, my only dissapointment was I read LJH & the spring mystery first, thinking it came before this one, and in the first chapter it refers to this story and you find out who did it - howvere it was still a good read.
Looking forward to others?? please

I absolutely loved this mystery. The husband and wife partnership works well and are very like-able. The story flowed and had plenty of suspects, twists and turns and I was kept guessing until the end. Before buying this, I read some of the reviews and have to say that not having been born in the 50s I can't say that I would know if any references to that era are wrong and I was too busy concentrating on the story to notice any glaringly obvious and/or annoying editing...I simply enjoyed it for what it is...a well rounded murder mystery.

A nice easy read with just enough background details to inform but not overwhelm the mind . A book you can pick and put down without losing the plot,a must for the amateur armchair detective.
