5.0 out of 5 stars Superb
For any football fan, this is a superb piece of work. Seems relatively short but still manages to go into a great amount of depth into Johan Cruyff's history. Also provides a balanced POV, and looks at his somewhat tempestuous and slightly darker side. The buildup and background to the CL Final when Capello's Milan beat Barca 4-0 was a particular highlight. Highly...

The author clearly knows a great deal about Cruyff but this is an overblown magazine article. It is sloppily written and needs proof-reading to sort out the many lazy errors as well as the terrible writing style.
There are far too many parentheses which lead to a breathless and confusing style. There are parentheses within parentheses and places where they are used incorrectly: "sale of chupa chups, literally, doubled." "Whooping" is used a couple of times instead of "whopping."
There are plain dumb errors: Netherlands isn't land-locked, Celtic didn't win the European Cup in 1969, 1994 isn't twenty years after 1984 and 2010 wasn't Netherlands first World Cup final since 1974.
The author should work on his expression and buy a thesaurus. "Astonishingly", "remarkably", "incredible", and "to this day" are used far too often.
The twenty-year old author comments with great authority on games that took place before his birth without quoting any sources for his knowledge. That is very poor indeed.
The best thing about this book is the bibliography. I would recommend all of the books in it. They are interesting, well-informed, well-written and much more worthwhile than this effort.

1.0 out of 5 stars Written very poorly, 7 Sep 2014
This review is from: Johan Cruyff - The Total Voetballer (Kindle Edition)
My knowledge of football isnt great, but i watched an old show on sky which showed Johan Cryuyff in his playing days.Apart from being a very good footballer,he was totally unlike todays cheats who dive and feign injury. This interested me a bit,so thought i would delve a bit deeper, and found this kindle" book" here on amazon. Its really not a book, more an extended magazine article, which is written in a very childlike style, the autor appers to be very young. The use of brackets is insane,i have never ever seen so many sentances bracketed off, which sort of sums up the authors immature style.Only a very brief read,im sure the player is worthy of better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dutch master, 13 Oct 2013

I did not think 75 pages would do justice to the subject. Well researched and well written gives you a good flavour of the master.

Any book involving scruff is bound to involve a lot of philosophically and this is no different.
Still it's well worth the read.

A series of short essays detailing parts of Cruyffs career.I have no idea who the author is,but, judging by his writing style,I would guess he would be aged around 12years old.He also (does love a bracket),there are countless (lines of brackets) throught this very brief book.Great player, poor book

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Cruyff! Totally Absorbing!, 24 Jan 2013

Ciaran's book on Johan Cruyff is certainly meticulously researched. It's a biography of Holland's greatest footballer who became one of the 20th Century most iconic sporting figures. He was one of those rare characters who graced the game not only on the pitch but also as a manager. The Barcelona of today owe him such a huge debt for his coaching expertise. Well done, Ciaran on a briliant read.

Covers his whole footballing life and is good and detailed in that sense but I personally was looking for more opinion and subjectivity.
