5.0 out of 5 stars Can't live without porcini
I use a lot of dried porcini these days, mostly in my own version of Bolognese sauce and alongside standard field mushrooms in risotto - the umami flavour imparted is incredible. I have been using 25g packets of Merchant Gourmet Porcini Mushrooms from the local supermarket, but at a couple of quid a pop it's rather expensive.

So rather glad to find these...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what it says on the tin
This was sold as porcini mushrooms. However, clearly the container contains many different mushrooms of lesser quality and taste. I would estimate the content of porcini mushrooms to be not more than 10-20%. What looked like a good offer is nothing special and of inferior quality.

So rather glad to find these megapacks, which on Amazon's subscribe & save work out at around half the price. And these Cooks & Co ones are just as good as the Merchant Gourmet. One thing you may need to be aware of however is that the size of the pieces of these Cooks & Co varies rather wildly compared to the somewhat more uniform size of the pieces in Merchant Gourmet's packets. Not a problem for me as for my recipes I always chop them fairly finely after rehydrating, but if you are wanting to keep them whole it may be a different matter.

Very happy with these mushrooms. If you like porcini mushrooms in pasta and omelettes, these are perfect; good idea to let them soak in the smallest amount of water you can to rehydrate them, lightly microwaved before adding the lot to your recipe. Good sized mushroom slices too, not to much debris at the bottom.

Great quality. I used to go picking these so I know what I mean. Gone are those days now due to disability but these make up for it!

I haven't used many other brands of these dried mushrooms but in comparison to ones I have used I find the quality & flavour to be good.
My only complaint is that at this price & having such a big jar handy I just use far too many so don't really save much in comparison to buying smaller jars!

What can you say about dried porcini? These are nice chunks, not tiny bits. They add flavour to all my stews and soups - especially home-made mushroom soup. Cannot fault quality, price or quantity.

These dried porcini's are great. The smell coming from the cupboard that these are kept in is fabulous. They give a fantastic flavour to all the dishes I've added them to.

Much cheaper than buying the smasll packets from the supermarket. The quality is good and I will certainly be buying more.
