Panasonic Customer Support is frustrating!
on 5 July 2013
I used to be a big Panasonic fan. If I ever wanted a piece of electronic kit and I found a Panasonic offering that gave me what I wanted in my price range, I bought it. I bought this to complement my Panasonic TV and Blu Ray player. This is clearly the worst of the 3. Were it not for Panasonic Customer Support I would have given it 3 stars.
Basically OK. It records and plays back well.
Lots of little niggles - well documented in other reviews. In addition
1. Does not connect to the TV automatically when switched on - as does the Blu Ray Player.
2. Asks that I retune Freeview channels EVERY time I switch it on.
As the Panasonic TV does not ask me to re-tune every time I switched it on I contacted Panasonic Customer Support. They advised me to switch the message off - i.e. the PVR would never be asked to re-tune, even if new channels were available. I pointed out that was not a proper solution to the problem. I then said that as the TV worked as expected there must be a bug in the firmware of the PVR. Panasonic consistently denied this. They gave me ludicrous reasons as to why the PVR would work in the way it does. I read several reviews of the PVR, none of them mentioned the display of the message every time the PVR was switched on. I have to believe that the message was displayed either because of a fault in the firmware in my box or the combination of kit I had attached to it. The final straw came when I asked the Customer Services rep to pass on my complaint to their manager. I waited for over 2 months and did not get a reply. I mailed them again, the Customer Services rep said that they had not replied as they had no more to say.
I may still buy Panasonic products but it will no longer be an automatic buy. I will certainly pay more attention to their Amazon reviews in future.
Panasonic Customer Support finally comes good! I have to admit they never gave up on me, they gave me answers that I could not believe, but they never gave up (apart from the "manager"). Finally talked to an engineer, he agreed that it was a firmware bug, which I guess is all that I wanted to hear. He suggested that I send the box to one of their service centre's, but as the bug is only at annoyance level I declined. The box itself is OK. Its not intuitive to use, it is feature rich but the manual is not an easy read.
