Absolutely amazing. If you thought they'd lost their way with their last couple of albums, and have been waiting for a return of the production and sounds of the superb Resist album, then the wait is over. This is a grest album, once you start playing it, you won't be able to turn it off, if you're anything like me, you just keep the up the volume higher and higher. But don't take my word for it, buy it and hear for yourself

I have been a big fan of Kosheen consistently throughout their career to date. I like everything they have done. My least favourite album is Kokopelli as the guitars arrived on that album. I am not averse to guitars, but not with my dance and house music. They redeemed themselves with the wonderful "Damage" album which is a great mix of house and dance sounds with pop and trip-hop edge. For me: heaven. I was sad and worried that "Damage" may have been the end of Kosheen as it didn't chart well, unlike the previous two albums. So as you can imagine I am OVER THE MOON that Kosheen have found their "independence."
Its a strong album, sweeping synths with a very dark underbelly, gorgeous and at times ethereal vocals from Sian. The dance rhythms range from pure hard house, breakbeat, drum and bass (mildish) and trip hop and pop. I would say that in a very short time this is going to be better than "Damage" and is already better than "Kokopelli" by miles. I really do think lovers of intelligent dance music, well produced house music and pop with a dance edge will absolutely love it and so I have tagged those phrases in the hope that this album succeeds as it definitely should. Buy it and absorb yourself in it. If they are playing a live set anywhere, as opposed to a DJ set (I am 41 now, lets face it) then I will be taking everyone with me to see them. This album is Excellent.

My son is the drummer with Kosheen so I am bound to say that it is indeed brilliant. However, I am also a musician and so, highly critical of the the over-all sound and performance of the band, and they know it. The second album was not to my taste, too dark. This album was a long time comming, but well worth waiting for! As one of the previous reviewers said, "It is a return of the original band that made the charts", but all of us have to remember that ALL bands have to evolve, they cannot stay the same all the time, (like the good old days)!??????
They have tried many things and all of them original. The writing force of the band are to be admired greatly and congratulated for their originality and pure talent.
They were once voted the Best Live Band Performers, so if you get a chance go and see them and form your own opinion as to the new songs as well as some of the old.

Only received this CD this morning and been playing it most of the day. This album is mostly the trademark catchy Kosheen, with a couple of duff songs thrown in. You won't be disappointed with this latest offering, I personally think this album is better than Damage. Given this 4 out of 5 due to having one or two rubbish tracks on it

I knew very little of this release as I am a huge Kosheen admirer, first things first it's (in my opinion) there finest album to date. Full of unique music of creative sounds & samples of different beats, never afraid to take a different approach & direction to there music. Do I dare say it! it's maturity for Kosheen. Sian voice is always a major factor when I listen to Kosheen it's beautiful & demure & I find myself listening to her constantly.
They don't get talked about very often which is a crying shame as they fly the flag for drum n bass in this country, but it's resurance there doing so well across europe. Good to know there appreciated elsewhere!
An understated Masterpiece! x

Better than the previous album (Damage), this album recalls Kosheen's own musical style from the first two albums and connecting to other musical styles, riffs. Independence is the first to be released under Kosheen's own label, but also shows their Independence of the urge to become famous: they make music that they like!

These guys have dropped out of the mainstream a little (sadly the mainstream is mostly dross now...), but they are still absolutely on it. I love it and can't stop playing it far too loud and my neighbours all hate me now.......

very good album, has got a very graunchy sound, is that a word!.
the album is a very dark, serious sounding album and has almost a completely new sound to previous albums.
brilliant to listen driving or at home!

Not the best Kosheen album, but still love Sian voice.
Will play over & over again with the others, till hopefully the next one.
Keep rocking Kosheen.
