Have read and enjoyed some of his other books, but couldn't get in to this one. There are very few books I have ever given up on, but this one has joined the list. I just didn't care enough about any of the characters to carry on reading.

When reading this, one finds themselves enthralled, really catapulted into the era in which Fitzgerald knows so well. This was only the second book of his I had ever read, but I loved it. Buy it. Read it. You'll certainly enjoy it.

Beautifully written, of course: enlightening, inspiring, emotionally and thoughtfully stirring. Great for anyone wanting a book of a new style or era.

Amory Blaine turned out to be a tiresome individual and although I felt some sympathy for him when he got his heart broken, I still didn't really care too much what happened to him. In fact, two weeks later I have already forgotten how the story ended.
I find it hard to believe that this work is by the same author who wrote 'The Great Gatsby' which is an excellent book. This, by contrast is tedious and self indulgent. The more the author told me about Amory Blaine's opinions, the more I came to believe that they were his own opinions very thinly disguised as fiction. I have subsequently discovered that a lot of F Scott Fitzgerald's work is autobiographical and I was not surprised; in some places, this novel reads like a badly written diary. Still, this is his first novel and I suppose he needed to practice the writers art in order to become good later on.
If you are new to this author, you may very well enjoy this book. Do not make my mistake of reading 'Gatsby' first because this one just isn't in the same league.

Fitzgerald's early work is gorgeously flawed. No reader will ever forget Amory Blaine. This Side of Paradise is an experimental, naiive, and self-consciously brilliant work, and should be read by anyone on the brink of their college years, and then again and again.

I ordered the limited edition Fitzgerald collection from Amazon. After a mis-delivery by TNT, Amazon replaced the order without question and I had delivery within a couple of days. I was really grateful that the customer service was so friendly and efficient. 2 thumbs up Amazon! The collection of books themselves are beautiful. I love the Art deco styling and the high quality print. They make a proud addition to my book shelf! :-)

Firstly, let me tell you that I am very much into books. It is very rare for me to dislike a book and not finish reading it. But this was just painfully boring and I stopped around Chapter 4. There are some good jokes but overall it has very little plot worth following. This was the first of Fitzgerald books I tried to read and I've been left disappointed.
