This review is from: Satan: A Biography (Paperback)
Having studied history at a postgraduate level I always find it difficult to pick a good history book to read on holiday. Some while interesting and engaging are too basic and lack any academic rigor. The more academic ones often become boring and fail to maintain my general interest.

This particular book manages to be obviously thorough and very well researched while maintaining a very interesting narrative account of the development of the popular idea of Satan. It looks at both the accounts we have of Satan and what this idea meant to people at the time and explains how the presence of Satan was rationalised by those living in a society where Satan really was all around.

Well worth reading for anyone interested in this topic
