The product is still in the box, in the car, in France. I was very disappointed to see that the expired date was so short, August 14. The alcosence breathalyser that they were bought to replace had a two year shelf life when originally bought. Very disappointed and would not buy from this supplier again.

Booked our holiday for France in the summer, decided to get everything sorted including the breathalysers. It doesn't say that the breathalysers have such a short expiry date on them, it will just cover our holiday, but as the expiry date is 6 months it should be stated as I would have waited till closer to our holiday.

Ordered these - tried one sober - reading was correct then had a few vodkas and bingo - it went green. Good enough for me :-)

IF YOU ARE GETTING THEM FOR DRIVING IN FRANCE READ ON
=====================================================
These are ideal, two for just under a fiver including postage. They work too.
For the benefit of the review I had a little drink or two. Tested before and after. Perfect.

NEEDED FOR FRANCE?
==================
Well, technically yes. But you won't get a fine.
Why?

1 March 2012 - from "1 July 2012" drivers must carry a breathalyser. Enforced from 1 November 2012 and anyone stopped after that date who fails to produce a breathalyser when requested will receive an on the spot fine of 11.

October 2012 - the French government announced that the fine of 11 - has been postponed from 1 November 2012 to 1 March 2013.

January 2013 - the French government announced that the fine of 11 - has been postponed indefinitely.

So theoretically you need to carry a breathalyser when driving in France but no fine.

Hope this helps.

We don't have a choice. New law in France will require motorists to carry these breathalisers. Obviously the items can't be tested unless you buy more, or get pulled over! So, here's hoping.... They are a little expensive in relation to the French guidelines indicating they wouldn't cost more than about £2 each, so it remains to be seen if they are easily available at channel ports and within France and at what cost.

This is the second time I have ordered this product. Had ordered direct from the comp, but was still waiting after 3 weeks. So tried Amazon, and although slightly more expensive, the speed of delivery was amazing, and with me in 3 days. Very impressed. Although I haven't used them yet, I need them to travel to France in July, due to a change in the law stating that all motorists should carry them

Ordered and received within 5 days so can’t knock the service, however the test kit received expires in only 5 months’ time. Extremely disappointed as this won’t even last through to the end of the summer. If they’re happy to sell the products with such limited shelf life then the product description should clearly state this. I understand the normal life of such a kit is about 2 years so to get ones that last only 5 months is extremely annoying. Feeling a bit ripped off. Avoid.

I ordered the item because it is now mandatory to carry the kit when driving in France. I was lucky as it was the last in stock. However it did not arrive and Autokit gave me a refund. It eventually turned up over 3 weeks later, after my trip. I told Autokit but they refused to take payment, citing my honesty. We agreed I would give the amount to charity. I have not had occasion to use the produce but it appears to be exactly what I needed and ordered. I will take it on the next trip though I hope not to need it! They should have new stocks by now.

Before you read further I have only anecdotely tested them. and I think they are calibrated to the French limit rather than UK limit.

However you need to carry one for driving in France and to avoid the "Can I drive after this drink vs I cannot drive if I use the breathalyser" paradox, I thought I would be best getting two. Plus if you are travelling as a group in more than one vehicle, someone will forget and you can give them the spare.

They are cheaper here than Halfords and will save you having to sell and organ to buy one on the ferry.

On returning to the UK I decided to test them and used one after 3 pints of 4.8% bitter it gave a positive result. I tested the second the following morning, whilst I still fell squiffy. That also gave a positive reading.

But in short you are best not drinking if you are driving, and waiting till you feel good and well the next day.
