The title probably says it all. TD fans will know all the music & most likely love it, so i won't attempt a review. Main thing is that the recordings have not been remixed, retouched, edited, tampered with, converted to 90s mush, etc.

As usual the complaints are to do with the package... poor notes, poor photos & one album (by Virgin's own admission - no "Kamikaze") completely absent. Why have CDs with 60 mins music?

4.0 out of 5 stars Long overdue...but still wonderful, 5 April 2012

Really good collection of Edgar's solo releases on Virgin sans Kamikaze 1989 ( which was in fact a Virgin release!) and Macula Transfer, originally released on vinyl on Brain and briefly on CD by Mannikin records in 1998.

Essential listening and Aqua and Epsilon sound bloody marvelous and an enormous improvement on my old CD's. Like everyone else I'll dock a star for the lazy packaging.

Had this release included "Baryll Blue" from the 70-80 box set which is the piece I think an earlier reviewer was referring to and Kamikaze it would have been pretty much complete, but who knows perhaps they'll follow!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Edgar Froese 1974-1983 full original albums, 5 April 2012

What we got here is five 1974-1983 full Edgar Froese's original albums. No boring remixed or 'tangentized' stuff, as it often happens with Tangerine Dream old material. This is the real, original, untouched thing, from the dark, free form 1974 Aqua, to the melodic, almost electropop 1983 Pinnacles, + Epsilon In Malaysian Pale + Ages + Stuntman + bonus tracks ! All in a 4CD jewel box, and an austere but quite nice, black & white artwork.

Ok, Macula Transfer is missing (but it wasn't originally released on Virgin records), and there seems to be a couple of mistakes in the bonus tracks. Never mind, this is a great, unexpected gift, a bunch of Tangerine Dream rare masterpieces, coming at bargain price.

I hope Virgin is planning another TD release. What about a Peter Baumann 1976-1983 solo box set then ?

4.0 out of 5 stars Two Essential Classics, one solid album (and the rest), 1 May 2013

This excellent value four disc sets contains two albums I consider to be worthy of five stars: Edgar's solo debut "Aqua" and the gorgeous "Epsilon in Malaysia Pale". These are both stunning efforts, every bit as good as the best of Tangerine Dream. "Epsilon" in particular is special: it has that mix of drive and melancholy that really sets Edgar apart. The ending of the album is just beautiful.

It's great to have these two available again in their original forms, as well.

"Stuntman", Edgar's third solo effort is a touch below these in quality but still very good and certainly worth owning.

For my taste, the other albums featured here are disappointing and show a marked decline in Edgar's work. I think this set would have been improved by issuing the first three albums on their own disc (rather than splitting "Epsilon" I half) and not bothering with "Ages" and "Pinnacles" at all.

Still, that's not a big deal. Three albums you really should own and some filler you probably won't listen to much is still a bargain at this price.
