5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent camera for socialites...
I must say that I was very impressed with this camera overall, given its low price tag - it has a wealth of useful features, performs very well under most conditions and takes bright well saturated 16MP pictures.
Straight out of the box the camera comes with a Quick start guide and a CD-Rom containing software for Intelli-Studio, remote back up of photos to PC and a...

3.0 out of 5 stars light and decent quality, but tricky to use
This camera is an attractive little piece of equipment. I have always been a fan of Samsung's aesthetics and they didn't disappoint here.
The DV300F is matt and gloss finish, is lightweight and fits easily in to the pocket. It has a generously sized LCD screen, making for easily taken pictures. In the age of social networking, it also has a front screen (as...

2.0 out of 5 stars started developing fault,
This review is from: Samsung DV300F SMART Compact Digital Camera - Silver/Purple (16.0MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 3.0 inch LCD (Electronics)I bought this for my 13yr old daughter last xmas - she was delighted - but after six months started developing faults.
1.0 out of 5 stars Poor after care,
This review is from: Samsung DV300F SMART Compact Digital Camera - Black (16.0MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 3.0 inch LCD (Electronics)High-fidelity, low customer care! Camera developed a fault, and would not always save pictures. Sent two emails and eventually was told I only had a 90 day warranty! They wouldn't even exchange it. I thought all brand new electrical products had a years warranty? This is disgusting and I will not be buying ANYTHING else from these crooks. Amazon needs to sort this out so it can't happens again!

4.0 out of 5 stars stopped working!!!!,
This review is from: Samsung DV300F SMART Compact Digital Camera - Black (16.0MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 3.0 inch LCD (Electronics)Camera is great but stopped working a couple of months ago, we can see the pictures we've taken but as soon as we need to take a picture it shuts down, despite a couple of e-mails we have heard nothing from the supplier as to whether we should return it to them or send directly to Samsung, most disapointed!!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Love it.,
3.0 out of 5 stars Great Pocket sized Compact Camera - Wifi connection & management not so great,
The picture quality is excellent - at 16,1 megapixels, it is possible to crop down to a tiny proportion of the total image and still produce a highly acceptable edited image, which by the way can be achieved 'in camera, with the built in utilities. In fact, for a point & shoot compact camera, it has many settings that can be manually adjusted by those with the knowledge and confidnce to make such changes. The rest of us can rely on its' Smart Auto settings, which leaves the photographer to 'focus' on framing a good photo.
With a 32GB Class 10 HD (Micro) SD card, image capacity is enormous -even at full 16mpx, there's room for more than 3000 images. Video can be run at 720p HD and is very sharp.
The camera has a rechargeable battery, which is charged through the now ubiquitous micro USB port that is found on many mobile devices these days and means essentially that if you have a car charger for your mobile phone etc, it will serve the camera well.
One other 'novel' feature is the frontside screen, which cannot be seen under normal conditions, that is until you press the button for it (located on the top of the camera) and, lo & behold there is the capability for self-portraits a la tablet PCs & smartphones! All the usual functions are there, flash, timer, blink detection, face detection and so on - everything that you might expect of a modern compact in this price range.
Now for the not-so great part. Yes there is Wifi but in my experience it has not been easy to use.
1. It will detect Wifi Hotspots & access points, as well as Home Network Wifi and in that respect it is as sensitive as most smartphones and tablets. However, there are one or two drawbacks that make it less user friendly:
a) It will only connect to a Wifi Hotspot if there is a login requirement - that can be achieved, although anyone who has a smart TV or Tivo box that doesn't have a keyboard attachment, will know about the long and tortuous process of using a keypad to input letters & numbers etc, the rear screen is not touch capable and so you are left to moving the menu cursor around an alphabetic/numeric virtual keyboard, with all its attendant foibles, in order to get anything input at all. That works and mostly, you will get connected right away. BUT, if by chance there is not login requirement, then there is no way to automatically access the wifi network. Unlike most mobile devices, the camera does not 'remember' wifi settings and so you have to login every time. Where there is no login requirement, the only other option available is the 'Press the WPS button' avenue, which is fine if your are somewhere that has a router close by - try doing that in MacDonald's or Costa's.
b) even if you do log in successfully and post your image to Facebook, when you are done, the wifi commection is forgotten and so if you want to go back in, you will need to log back in again!
2. As mentioned above, the virtual keyboard is only workable via the Menu/Cursor buttons and so doing anything that requires text input will take a very long time to achieve.
So, in summary, what do I think of my purchase?
Pros: Very high quality images & video from a feature packed compact pocket-sized camera. You couldn't wish for more from a compact.
Cons: The Wifi is not at all easy to use and the system has flaws that need ironing out. Not sure what can be done about the virtual keyboard - make the rear screen touch capable? One thing I didn't mention above - that rear screen is virtually un-viewable in strong sunny daylight - like most modern compacts, this camera has no viewfinder and the rear screen is no better or worse than other compacts I have used - indoors no issue but outside on a bright sunny day, hopeless. Maybe one day, camera makers will re-introduce the viewfinder - my last two Canon Powershots had one, so it is possible, even in a small sized camera.
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome,
This review is from: Samsung DV300F SMART Compact Digital Camera - Silver/Red (16.0MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 3.0 LCD (Electronics)Bought this for my children (14 & 16) and it is so easy to use with numerous enhancements that they are still discovering. Lots of fun
5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely compact,
5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic camera bought for my wife for her birthday,
This review is from: Samsung DV300F SMART Compact Digital Camera - Silver/Red (16.0MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 3.0 LCD (Electronics)I chose this as you can take self-portraits using the small LCD screen on the front, and can e-mail / WIFI pictures taken. My wife is always taking pictures of herself with the kids and always on facebook etc. We have a Pentax Optio (waterpoof), a Panasonic Lumix Waterproof and now this Samsung. I was / am a bit dissapointed by the Pentax, I thought the Panasonic was amazing - but the Samsung is in another leagure again. Great piece of kit which, it seems, can't take a bad picture. Well done Samsung!
5.0 out of 5 stars Neat little camera,
