5.0 out of 5 stars good solid album
I must admit I was a bit sceptical about how good this album was going to be but this is a really strong first album from Dot Rotten and has been on repeat all week, completely agree with the review above there isn't a bad song on here!

2.0 out of 5 stars The Wrong Voices, The Right Head.
What is most frustrating about Grime artists straying away from Grime (besides Grime millitants' outdated and naive definition of "Grime") is when the artist's whole musical style and vocal technique is so well suited to it. I believe this is most applicable to three artists in particular: Dot Rotten, Devlin and Maxsta. Artists who made phenominal Grime music in their...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Wrong Voices, The Right Head., 12 Jun 2013

What is most frustrating about Grime artists straying away from Grime (besides Grime millitants' outdated and naive definition of "Grime") is when the artist's whole musical style and vocal technique is so well suited to it. I believe this is most applicable to three artists in particular: Dot Rotten, Devlin and Maxsta. Artists who made phenominal Grime music in their early days but have since seem to stray away.

For the record, I love it when an artist develops their sound and takes risks with their music, just as long as it's good. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Dot Rotten's debut album Voices In My Head.
What starts off, sort of, promising with good tracks slowly decreases as it gets to the end.

The albums first two tracks "Hello" and "Voices In My Head" are great sounding songs and definitely a great start to the album. And from then on the album gets slightly stronger, "Keep it on a Low", "Pressure" and "I Can See" being the particularly standing out tracks for me.
But Unfortunately after "Gates of Heaven", a song that brilliantly showcases Dot's versatile style, the album goes down hill dramatically. The last three songs either lacking in quality or just not really be as exceptional as the rest of the album.

For the record, this album is not that bad, a good listen but definitely not the masterpiece that Dot Rotten's previous catalogue of amazing music would have predicted. There are some songs here, the four singles in particluar, that really stand out and give this the potential to be an outstanding album. But sadly, these moments are more 'Flash in the pan'.
