A really interesting account of Peter Piot's career, including the discovery of Ebola and the outbreak of HIV/AIDS. Absolutely loved it! If you're interested in global health, I would really recommend it! Very well written, although occasionally I did get confused as to the relative chronology of events as there was a bit of going backwards and forwards in time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely interesting - A fantastic insight into the AIDS epidemic, 23 July 2012

The book takes us on the journey of the life of Peter Piot and his career in public health. His open style to writing gives us a real insight into public health issues which is totally gripping and addictive. This book will serve as an inspiration for budding scientists of the future as they try to cope with the effects of inertia by governments (particularly in Africa) who did not prevent the spread of HIV.
Truly awe inspiring biography!

This book is a great read for those interested in the explorers of epidemics, how they are discovered, monitored and eventually made safer. In addition the vision of travelling in countries living under regimes of oppression and war is made clear which makes for interesting personal reading

If you are interested in how scientists put their lives on the line to ensure that diseases that are lethal, are found, and the perils of what these scientists have to face from the ridiculous puppet governments who have no idea how their country is run by unscrupulous town/city villains, then this is the book for you, it is gripping and harrowing at the same time and explains why there are still ongoing problems in Africa and no doubt other countries around the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, 1 Mar 2013
A fascinating record of the career of Peter Piot. Mostly an excellent read - the beginning is perhaps more interesting than the end.

Peter Piot focuses on the battle against Ebola and AIDS/HIV across the world, from when they first occured to treatment and perhaps an eventually cure. The story of the fight to get everyone to pull together to fight these conditions gives a great deal of hope for the future.
