5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I loved Nekromantik, a film that was made as a protest to the censorship in Germany. The film contains some animal cruelty (a rabbit getting killed and skinned, a cat(not real) getting beat against a wall and his inners dripping into a bath that the lead character is bathing in. It contains sexual scenes with corpses which are both funny and disgusting. His girlfriend...

2.0 out of 5 stars A Badly Misjudged Attempt at a Disturbing Film
This is a dated, low budget, distasteful and sleazy horror film, which doesn't deserve any kind of place in any list of seminal and great horror films. It's a German flick with English subtitles.

This is a dated, low budget, distasteful and sleazy horror film, which doesn't deserve any kind of place in any list of seminal and great horror films. It's a German flick with English subtitles.
Rob Schadtke is a thirty-something, nondescript German fellow, who's obsessed with human anatomy and collecting body parts. He works for Joe's Street Cleaning Agency, a firm who clean up human remains from road traffic accidents and crime scenes. He uses the job to pilfer body parts, which he stores in glass jars on shelves at his apartment. In an early stretch of credibility, he has an attractive, similarly aged girlfriend, Betsy, who shares his obscene penchant for dead human flesh.
A young chap is killed in a shooting accident and the body gets dumped by the rifleman. Rob takes the dead body back home as a trophy for his girlfriend, and before long, the couple are having (very badly shot) threesomes with the cadaver...
The film score is atrocious, both highly intrusive and completely over the top. It's quite probably the worst film score I've ever heard. The film quality is very poor, with washed out colouring, clumsy editing and unskilful camerawork. The acting is amateurish and stilted. The script is dreary and the pace is stultifying. There are completely pointless and ill-considered scenes of animal brutality, which add nothing to the tale and are clearly designed purely to test viewer tolerance thresholds, nothing else. The story itself is uninteresting and uninvolving. The film tries so desperately and risibly hard to be shocking, that it just becomes a caricature of a truly disturbing film, not fit for comparison with sublime and truly disturbing films like Audition, Bedevilled, Irreversible and Martyrs - Audition [Blu-ray] [1999] [US Import], Bedevilled [Blu-ray], Irreversible (DVD) (Collector's Edition) (Subtitled) [2003], Martyrs [Blu-ray].
If you really want to see a decent, professionally made movie, which covers a gross out subject like necrophilia, Dead Girl is highly effective - Dead Girl [DVD] [2006].
If you just want to watch a really good German movie, try Anatomy, Christiane F., Das Experiment, North Face and Run Lola Run - Anatomy [DVD] [2001], Christiane F. [DVD], Das Experiment [DVD] [2002], North Face [DVD] [2008], Run Lola Run [Blu-ray] [2008] [Region Free].

It contains sexual scenes with corpses which are both funny and disgusting. His girlfriend gets so excited with the sex she runs off with the corpse. So after not been impressed with a lone night out at the cinema watching a rape/slasher film with a very serious audience he picks up a hooker, takes her to a graveyard, kills and rapes the dead hooker. The film has a dark comic value throughout and includes most of the sex and death that extreme horror fans like

5.0 out of 5 stars A strong, sickening gross-out cult film from Germany., 14 Oct. 2014
Nekromantik is the controversial horror film that shocked the world in 1987, when it was banned in Germany, censored in Japan and simultaneously became a huge underground hit in the US (now long out of print.). Nekromantik tells the story of Rob (Daktari Lorenz) who works at a street-cleaning Agency, who visits roadside accidents to clean up the scene. Incidentally, Rob collects the body parts and takes them to his small apartment, where he and his girlfriend Betty (Beatrice M.) can then comit acts of necrophilia. When Rob presents a complete corpse taken out of a swamp, their undying love reaches its peak, but soon after Betty starts liking the corpse and leaves Rob, which takes him to the sick end of his destruction. Nekromantik is a great feature film debut for German director Jörg Buttgereit. Not a common film at all, Nekromantik is utterly original and makes you want to see it over and over again! No doubt the gore and scenes of necrophilia were utterly disgusting and brilliant, it's guaranteed to shock and offend those who have a weak stomach. The extremely low budget also gives the film a really raw and dirty atmosphere like watching faces of death, but I'm going to be honest the slow motion shots were rubbish, I guess Jörg was trying to be artistic but let's face it the film was made for extreme horror fans and gore hounds. Being banned in many countries the most people only see a depraved and disgusting horror movie in it, but to me it is a disturbing, but simultaneously beautiful film about a weird fetish! The whole film is surrounded by an almost apocalyptic poetry and the wonderful piano score emphazises the sinister death-is-everywhere atmosphere perfectly! and the ending is guaranteed to make you cringe, gives a new meaning to the word climax. If you've seen films like Men Behind the Sun, The Guinea Pig films, Salo, A Serbian Film, Martyrs, Irreversible, Cannibal Holocaust ect. then you might want to check out this masterpiece. If you can't handle those type of films then avoid at all costs. The new blu-ray is probably the best that the film is going to look considering the fact that it was shot on super 8mm and it does look impressive, with a couple of extras including a new intro by Jörg Buttgereit, Q&A With Jorg at The American Cinematheque (2013). A never released before short film called Hot Love (1985). Audio Commentary By Jorg and Co-author Franz Rodenkirchen, the making of Nekromantik, Nekromantik Featurette, still Photo gallery and JB trailers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sensitive subject handled sensitively., 17 Dec. 2014
This review is from: Nekromantik (DVD)
One of the worlds most important film makers tackles the subject of necrophilia. A sensitive subject handled in a sensitive, shot with warmth and humour, by a director not afraid to graphically portray his subject matter. Hopefully this will lead to relrases for his other works including, Der Todesking, Necromantic 2 and Schram. If you want to see what a young director can do when he does not want to take the lazy options, (found footage, slasher, zombie.) and applies talent to a subject truly challenging then this movie is a must see and one that will haunt you forever.
