5.0 out of 5 stars One year in the life of aman destined for the trenches.
Read the sample on kindle and had to buy it. Never known a book to be so emotive albeit an ebook. How he changes from one day to the next, shock becomes acceptance which in turn becomes an every day occurance. Downside, there is'nt one. "a must read"

The Diary was a great read and excellent value, many thanks to Peter Shores and his family for sharing this. Have just downloaded the 1917 diary!

My Grand Dad was a Signaller in the Great War 1915-1919 so the opportunity to read a diary of Sapper who did the same job, was too good to miss. Thank you for letting me read these diaries it has helped me better understand what my Grand Dad may have experienced.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sleep and letters to Hilda, 14 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: 1916 World War 1 Trench Diary Sapper Reginald Dickon Hall Royal Engineers 4th East Yorkshire Regiment (Kindle Edition)
This curious book could be summed up as slept well / badly, wrote letter to / received letter from Hilda, went for a walk, but it is, if not putdown able, at least very easy to pick up again. Unfortunately RH doesn't write very much of his day to day work. I suppose that he didn't think it worth recording, if there's a second edition I'd ask the editor to do some research as to what RH would have been doing and include that. I've already bought the next volume.

A moving, honest account of life at war, told with an observant eye and the penmanship of a poet. Highly recommended.
