I bought 'Murderous Addiction' thinking it was the work of Irish author Kevin Barry (writer of 'City of Bohane'). It isn't. Which is a massive, shuddering relief.

The experience of trying to understand how such an astoundingly clunky, two-dimensional thriller, with cardboard characters and no interest in language, could have been written by the Irish Kevin Barry, was surreal. I felt the book had to be some post-modern pastiche...which made me think less of the Irish Kevin Barry. I did him wrong. Same names, wildly tangential authors. (It could almost be a Kevin Barry short story.)

The Kevin Barry who wrote 'Murderous Addiction' is an Aussie writer; I assume he's a self-published, enthusiastic amateur. Fair enough, but I really resent paying for any book littered with spelling and grammatical errors throughout, which the Kindle version is. Shabby.

The Irish Kevin Barry may be a great writer in the making. His Aussie namesake is not worth the tutting over the typos.

This book was recommended by a friend, liked it from the start! Good story with unexpected turn of events, couldn't put it down. Highly recommended, was my first book I've read by Kevin Barry, did not disappoint

I really enjoyed the book, it really got me hooked, and i couldn't put it down until i finished it. I thought at first it was going to be the story of a recovering addiction, but it's way more than that. It's a great kind of whodunnit story, but i really didn't expect it to turn the way it did. The only reason it gets 4* and not 5 is due more to the typos and mistakes than to the story itself, which might be a bit unfair, considering i might have myself made some in this review, but i'm not a writter and English isn't my 1st language. I liked it so much i looked for other books kevin barry has written, and will more than likely download more to see if his storytelling remains as funny and inspired as in this story. Highly recommended, da!

Not a patch on Kevin Barry's other work. This edition is so full of mistakes in spelling and punctuation it became a chore to get to the end. A totally unmemorable book. I won't read it again
