3.0 out of 5 stars bit disappointing, 15 Dec 2013
This review is from: A Home by the Sea (Kindle Edition)
Read via local elibrary where that blurb matches amazon. Grace is on summer island trying chocolate recipes and helping her fathers vet clinic. Meets sam walker who's just back from Afghanistan, they get stuck in storm together etc.
Fantastic fiction has different blurb that ties up with actual story in book. Grace meets H, noah, in DC. She is a cookery historian. She stays overnight at his parents house etc..her father left her & mother when she was 7. Her grandfather has a vet clinic. She only returns to summer island halfway through book as grandfather in hospital. She was with noah when was notified of this so she flew there & left message for noah & her contact re new job that she would be away 5 days. Why would she leave message for noah as she used his mobile to phone the island? (Another discrepancy, before this, her mobile rang & she answered as oregon code but was Gage in DC! ). Chapter 14 opens with "HER MOUTH BURNED". Why? she just woke up. My mouth doesn't burn when I wake up. Next chapter had her "Grace haunted and paced, roamed and stalked". Would expect sentence to have continued.... the hospital. Or maybe ...the waiting room. She stalked and roamed nothing.
Where oh where was the editor? Also how could author write so many discrepancies in first place especially as she writes many serious non fiction works?
When grace arrives at hospital, told her grandfather is sleeping but she is told he had recognised Gage before that. Why is he now in a coma or unresponsive? More and more discrepancies, I would need to write a book to cover them all.
Why would anyone plan menus and look to order yarn when the building just bought needs 5 months work doing? It has no heat, is cold yet when electric problem, now house is cold without electricity. From graces arrival, gage is only there 9 more days but weeks pass, noah comes, caro hasnt had baby and gage still there. Hes there 2 more days, she has 2 more weeks til baby due. Must be a time machine at work. Loads more discrepancies.
I did enjoy the story but was really annoyed with the differing blurb to story and all the discrepancies.
