Tom Russell is a top quality singer/songwriter and this 2 cd package is very much worth acquiring. "Borderland" was released in 2001 and is in my view the better of the two. It features Russell's long-serving and excellent guitarist Andrew Hardin as well as Ian Mclagan on keyboards and Eliza Gilkyson on harmony vocals. The songs are uniformly strong and well served by Russell's baritone vocals. I am not such a fan of "Modern Art" which is at times a little pretentious and Russell's left-wing leanings and positions are just a little too much on display. Nonetheless it's a good album and includes contributions from other well-known "Americana" artists like Nanci Griffith Mark Hallman and Gurf Morlix
